Rim cleaning?
I am just seeing what people use for products as rim cleaning. I just picked up that black magic rim cleaner and it didn't work well. I have some break dust that I can't get off my rim so I'm seeing if anyone has some suggestions that are not from Adams.

Usually good old soap and water works best. Personally, I'd recommend you stay away from most rim cleaners. Some have been known to damage your clear coat over time.

Yeah I've read not to use rim cleaning products, but I've been scrubbing with regular soup and wash and it didn't remove, so I went and tried this brand at my local auto shop and it still didn't get off, so I was hoping someone had a better product than what I used.

SONAX Wheel Cleaner, all wheel cleaner, chrome wheel cleaner, aluminum wheel cleaner, full effect wheel cleaner
this will get all your brake dust off. My mom never washes her car, she had like 5 years worth of break dust and the rum was completely black. one application of this and the rims are completely silver again, no brushing. period. |

As a rule, never use anything on your wheels that isn't safe for your paint.
This is very important when dealing with wheels that have an anodized finish, such as many different Volk models. Personally, I suggest you use Sonax Full Effect like a poster above mentioned. This is a great product that breaks down dirt and brake dust over time before you then wash it away. If you're interested in wheel protection after the fact, something like Wolf's Rim shield is great. http://www.detailersdomain.com/Wolfs...eld_p_530.html IMO, it's best to go ahead and order from an online vendor such as detailer's domain, where you can read about proper use and application for the product rather than paying out the *** for an inferior product from Autozone. I'm not saying that Autozone doesn't sell some decent products, because they do. However, you're paying a pretty high markup for a product that usually doesn't fit your application 100%. |

I don't think this is off topic...
My wife's 330i has a gazzilion little "spokes" and its a AT and she rides the bajeezus out of her brakes. I've soaped and I've scrubbed, but they are a B**ch to get clean. Now, I just hit them with my pressure washer and the THICK coat of brake and road goo plus the (Colorado) Magnesium Chloride comes right off. Its probably not good enough a clean for a show car type finish, but for a DD its easy, fast, and awesome. I bought my pressure washer used for about 100 bucks on Craigs list. gas powered, 3000 psi. Just keep it a safe distance from your finish and its effective fast and kinda fun. (Its also really good for cleaning out your suspension and exhaust from below in the winter.)
