Scuffed Inside Rims

Yesterday I had my first tire change on the rears for my 2009 370 at 25K miles. I took them to a shop that was highly recommended locally. Just my luck I get home and detail the car and notice scratches on the inside where the balance weights (Stuck on by 3M tape) used to be. I have attached a picture.....I am beyond frustrated and the tire shop gave me grief...."well, sometimes that happens because these are hard to get off sometimes....we have a disclaimer on the door that we can't be responsible for damage to the wheels". Conveniently I missed the sign....what a crock. Anyway, do any of you have any ideas on how to repair this? The scratches don't even feel like grooves...they're totally smooth...very weird. The shop will not do anything. Thanks!

Cant believe that the shop won't fix what they obviously messed up. Powder coat them

Sign up for Angie's list and leave a negative review. Leave reviews on yahoo, etc. You can upload pictures to both I believe.

Send links of the reviews to the company. Who cares of you piss them off. It's not like you are going back anyway.

I am waiting to hear back from their shop in reply to an email I sent them yesterday. If I don't get results from that, then I will pursue alternatives for getting the word out about their shops lack of customer service. I will also look into the list you are talking about. As far as the rims are concerned, it seems that since their are no grooves...you can't even feel anything on the scratches...then there must be something that can buff that out or polish it after the gook is removed. On another note, and excuse my ignorance, but what is powder coating when mentioned to clean the scratches? It sounds like a lot of work! LOL

Wow, thats just horrible work. It looks like they removed them just by using a regular screw driver or something on them.... Id go back and demand them to fix the problem, or threaten them with small claims court...

The guy was a total @$$ and said "well we have a disclaimer that states we are not responsible for rim damage" or something like that. he was rude up front when I hadn't even said anything. I had just asked what could have done this. He told me it's a plastic scraper and because of the finish of the rims and the coating it's easily scratched. I just wish someone would have given me a heads up before they went chuck norris on the rims. A few scratches sucks but maybe acceptable but this many it looks like a total prison style gouging.

I agree with you orion32773. Sorry you have to go through this bad experience. Hopefully everything works out for the best.

G'z.. This isn't rocket science! Don't they have a plastic pry tool to get them off. Even if the plastic tool does mar the finish, all you really need is an edge to get started, then peel the rest off by hand.

If you don't get resolution on a store level, keep moving up the chain. Maybe even write to your local consumer watch media group (most news channels have a segment for this).

Was this a discount tire or some other shop?

If this shop is part of a chain, file a complaint with the corporate office. Also don't forget to file a complaint with the BBB. You can do this online and a lot of business's actually still respond to those.

I agree with this highly. And those disclaimers dont always hold up. I would go up the chain as well and raise all hell. Its one thing if the natural process of removing them may cause some issues, but this is blatant sloppy work and unprofessional...
