Waterless Wash

Hey all. I've been seeing more and more waterless wash products on the market lately. I've always been a traditional two-bucket guy, but am wondering about the effectiveness and risks of these products. I'm particulary concerned with risk of scratches etc. My car is always parked indoors and is not a DD, so doesn't tend to get too dirty between washes. I'm an Adams guy down the line with my detailing products.

Have many of you used a waterless wash product and, if so, what has your experience been?

Thanks!

The guy who detailed my Z did use this method. It worked pretty good.

i use Griot's SprayOn CarWash at times. it's a safe system given that you use the product liberally, use a lot of fresh towels wiping only one direction (vertical for me), one cycle, and use simple common sense like not dragging your soiled towel all over the paint in circular motion.

I've always been a two bucket guy myself. Lately I've been religiously dusting w/ the California Duster (properly) 1-2x a day. I'll follow-up with Zaino Z6 quick detailer (has antistatic properties that repel dust) and clean Zaino "snow white" towels in the manner Kenchan described above. So far, no micro-scratches or swirls in the clear. And I haven't washed the car in two months! To be honest, my car has never looked this good

I've considered one of those dusters because outside of dust, I could just QD the bugs off, hit the windshield with a little Windex and be good to go for quite some time since I don't really drive the car in the rain much.

Does that thing really work? I just have a hard time believing it won't scratch it.

Believe me, I was a huge skeptic. I don't drive the car in the rain at all (if it's in the forecast I carpool), so the car is always "clean". I keep a spray bottle with a cap full of Zaino carwash and water on hand and spray down the front if I get bugs on the car. They slide right off now.

Junkman's video shows the proper way to use it. FYI, my car never has that much dust on it that the vette has in the video. Bc I'm so OCD about it, I only see a few specks at most when I use mine...

This is the exact method I use. I've had my Z for 3 months and it's never had a traditional wash. I also use the California Duster but I use Meguiars Ultimate Quick Detail.

I'm telling you, people will be asking you how you keep your car looking so good all the time. I get questions about it constantly. You should see the look on their faces when I tell them it's never been washed. lol

I get that look all the time! My detailer buddies think I'm nuts until they see the paint in person.

ive yet to wash my Z this year. i only use duster and QD and dont take her out on rainy days. not worth the hassle washing and detailing afterwards for me.

there is some very minor hazing in the paint after 3yrs and i will be polishing that out when it get a tad cooler in a couple of weeks. :)

Agreed. I'd rather spend 20-30 minutes a day with my car than 2-3 hours every weekend washing/detailing it.

Same here going on 3 years only time it has seen water is the handful of times an out of nowhere Florida storm has got it. Quick Detail and semi annual wax still looks new!

Umm I just learned boat loads. I was doing it all wrong all along. :shakes head:

I use the quick detailer from advanced auto/auto zone and that does the trick. However, I have been using that product in a circular motion is that not correct??? Should I only wipe 1 direction???

sfearl1 08-03-2012 09:40 AM

Wiping one direction minimizes the amount of "swirling" to the clearcoat. If you were to wipe in one direction and happen to scratch the clear, it will only be visible from either side of that scratch. If you are swirling in a 360* manner, the scratch will be visible from every angle.
