You're a detailing nooby unless you have...

I've got a dedicated 'car wash' faucet that I not only run through the water softener, but has hot water, too (Moen outdoor mixing faucet). Then I additionally filter it with a whole house canister filter.
Washing with hot water is sooooo nice. Especially for bugs - they just wipe right off with hot water. |

I believe a water softener just reduces the mineral content vice completely removes them which leaves your cars paint vulnerable to water spots. I wash my car with hot water too, as hot as I can possibly stand it. It cleans everything!

Would I love one? Yes
Would my wife let me spend $400 on one? Not a chance

The salt in the water softener is just for cleaning the medium - very little actually stays in the water. I'm probably not getting as low of TDS as a CRS, but I bet it's close. |
