I've got a dedicated 'car wash' faucet that I not only run through the water softener, but has hot water, too (Moen outdoor mixing faucet). Then I additionally filter it with a whole house canister filter.

Washing with hot water is sooooo nice. Especially for bugs - they just wipe right off with hot water.

I believe a water softener just reduces the mineral content vice completely removes them which leaves your cars paint vulnerable to water spots. I wash my car with hot water too, as hot as I can possibly stand it. It cleans everything!

Water softener deosn't remove minerals it just replaces the calcium with sodium i think

I live in Indiana - limestone capital of the US. If we don't run water softeners, everything, and I mean everything spots. If you just spray down a car with regular water and let it dry you'll have white circles everywhere. There is so much lime in the water that it's actually sticky.

The salt in the water softener is just for cleaning the medium - very little actually stays in the water.

I'm probably not getting as low of TDS as a CRS, but I bet it's close.

hmmmm.... thanks for letting me know. In most cases can you just get by installing a in-line water softener?
