Rock Chip Repair - Pearl White

I have the OEM touch up paint and have tried to use it however it's very thin and doesn't really provide any coverage. It appears to be more of a pearl layer than a base white color.

How do folks on here touch up the Pearl White color? If you use a base white before the OEM paint what color code do you use?

Thank you :tiphat:

Oh, I've heard about that...

So the Dr. Colorchip stuff really works well? Is it easy to use?

Yes its far superior to the oem touch up and it is easy to use. May take a few tries to learn how to use it but, works great. Give it a try.

I tried the dealer touch up on my white Z and the stuff was like skim milk...tried to touch up the area just below where the door closes....on the right angle fold. No luck at all..even with several coats.

.Dr Color Chip was more like heavy glue and really covered it ..did the job very well. Took two coats and so far has not come off

Was excellent when I repaired a few spots on the hood..

Only problem i have is that on the front bumper Color Chip seems not to stick to the spot and comes off when I use the clarifying liquid. Maybe it doesnt stick to plastic? Any suggestions?

Have you tried using some dawn liquid soup or something that will remove all the wax from the surface before trying to touch up the spot? I dunno that might help. White is a hard color to touchup. Good luck with it

Well i tried dish detergent and still no luck..
the sides of the chip in the bumper seems to be actually raised on the surface..if i run my finger over it it seems that part of it is actually above the rest of the surface,,.,I tried to smooth it out with a very fine pad but could not remove the edges,,I am wondering if that has something to do with causing Color Chip to not stick..

I know that I dont have a pearl white, i have the brilliant silver. I was looking in the DR. color chip website and the names of the colors for the 370z athe the names given to the 350z. would it make a difference? I know the Brilliant Silver is different than the Liquid Platinum Silver Metallic. should i just search it by color code?

Reaper333 04-25-2012 09:35 AM

Id use the color code just to make sure. Be a shame to order the wrong color.
