Window scratches

Anyone else having problems with scratches on the windows?

I noticed on my passenger side a bunch fine scratches, I'm guessing from one time or another I put the window down with some dirt on there... I'm pretty uptight about it because the car is so new, and wondering if this should even be a big problem with the glass on our car?

I feel they can be polished out, I have attempted fixing them before on other cars, but if it will keep happening not sure I will bother.

Any comments appreciated

I have two scratches on my front windshield one in the same arc as the wiper and one left to right both abou 8 inches long

Made a few calls to discuss the problem,

with the auto detailer,
body shop,
auto glass repair / install guy,
service guy at nissan


The glass shouldn't of been scratched so easily, and it was said to me that something would of really had to of been rubbed on there to get rubbing like this, and the other strange thing is it's not vertical streaks, but just circular types of scratching. Only on passenger side, not on driver side.

I'm thinking something may of hit the window on the parkway, or someone rubbed on the window to cause it. It was mentioned to me by the detailer he sees it on a lot of cars, and it could be due to some grit caught in the window, and recommended I clean it. That still doesn't explain how the rubbing ended up in a circular pattern (not a line)

If the window somehow scratched from raising / lowering it with sand or dirt trapped on the sill .. It was recommended to me to lower the window, and clean out the the area around the window sill with a tooth brush, and vacuum the area to stop the rubbing.

I'm going to try to polish the glass this weekend, though it probably will not make a difference.

Hmm strange with tint you never notice scratches although im sure I have a couple on them.

Just wondering if anyone on here has redone a window on their 370Z? Debating it, was wondering what you guys though

Got a nasty set of scratches in one of my windows from dirt/grit/sand trapped in between the glass and the trim... rolled the window down, could hear something rubbing, went back and scratches galore.

It had been windy and some particles had worked their way in between the lower seal and the glass.

The only way to repair a scratch on glass is with a pretty messy and aggressive approach using cerium oxide, a bronze pad, and rotary polisher. Not something I'd necessarily recommend you do without some experience.

There should be some glass repair places locally that can perform the service for about $100-$200. Before fixing though, you may want to take apart your door and find where the scratches are coming from. I pulled my inner door panel and used some crevice tools to get all the stuff out from between the glass before fixing mine.

I thought I cleaned it out, but now the scratches seem to be getting worse... I'll try to take some pics tomorrow. At this point I'm thinking of just getting a new window. Has anyone on here had experience replacing a window on 370 Z yet?

on day one when they removed the window sticker they cut a slit onto the window... but ya know half the time my windows are down so i just live with it

Ive never tried it, but ive heard of others using swirl remover polish, and even toothpaste (the whitening type) for glass

Yeah I have heard of the toothpaste method as well, but I don't know if OP would be willing to try that.

My car is getting a new window today, should have it back tonight : )

I may be open to trying the toothpaste/baking soda thing on my older subaru though, which has horrible scuffs running up and down driver/passenger windows (I think the the tints caused some problem making the glass too thick)

My new window went in, pretty decent job, except for the fact it wasn't setup and kept going down! LOL. We have to program our windows to stay up I guess.... I'm really happy my mechanic did a real careful job installing it, no scratches on the trim (like when I had the actuator switched on other side by Nissan Service).
