Default Swissvax

So just out of curiosity, I decided to give Swissvax a shot and see what all the fuss was about. Ordered Swissvax Onyx from Detailers Domain about a week ago and finally had a chance to wax my car over the weekend. There were a few minor swirls that could have used some attention, but nothing really major so I decided to just go with just the wax. Since I only have a finite amount of clear to work with, I try not to polish unless absolutely necessary.

-washed with Adam's car shampoo
-clay'ed entire car with Adam's detail spray & clay bar
-wash again
-light spray entire paint surfaces with diluted alcohol and damp MF cloth. I wanted make sure no residual "old" wax was still on the paint.
-rinsed with water and dried
-Swissvax Onyx application: Surprisingly easy to apply. I used my bare hands and this stuff pretty much melts when it hits the palm of your hands. A little goes a long way and it doesn't take much to cover an entire panel. This stuff also smells pretty good. Comes off rather easy and barely any dust to speak of. After letting it cure and left alone for a few hours, I can honestly say this stuff is awesome. The depth, especially on black, is phenomenal. Water sheets off really well.

I previously had Adam's Americana on the car, and that too was exceptional. I'd have to give the slight edge over to the Swissvax though. It's not a huge difference, but it is noticeable... to me anyways. Then again, it could be a placebo effect. It certainly isn't worst. So far though, I'm very pleased with the results. Yeah it's certainly pricey for a wax, but I'm definitely glad I tried it.

It's all in the prep work! But you can notice the subtle differences of various carnauba waxes, especially on black. The Z looks great!

Yeah, I didn't realize Swisswax had a pre-cleaner until after the fact. I tried looking locally for anything close and decided to just try the diluted alcohol. I def have to give the cleaner fluid a shot next time.

Also, it started raining yesterday on my drive home. I thought for shure I'd have a dirty car by the time I got home. Surprisingly, the water repellening properties with this wax is amazing. I didn't even have to wipe the car down, the water droplets just fell off as I was driving and by the time I got home, it didn't even look like it was rained on.

Wow. I had no idea this wax was so expensive. What exactly is it about it that makes it so? $119 for the low end and $1499 up top. Not talking sh*t, just honestly curious as to what causes this stuff to be so expensive. That being said I am tempted...

Yeah, it is does get crazy expensive, but this stuff does seem to work. The previous wax I used was Adam's Americana, which sells for around $70, honestly gets you 90-95% there. All around great performer. That extra 5-10% is noticable though, in my opinion. Again, it could be a placebo effect, but I'm pretty confident there is a difference in depth. It just looks really 'wet' and this is without polishing. Supposedly, its the percentage of natural carnuba makes it expensive. The $1,499 stuff is advertised as 70% while the Onyx is around 30%. Of course there are other things than just carnuba that goes into these waxes. The lack of dust and left over white residue is a real plus, especially if some wax happens to get into those hard to reach places. Some of it also has to do with pricing the brand at a premium. It's kind of like Apple products in a sense.

Just remember though, a small amount really does go a long way. Judging from what I used so far with the Swissvax, I could probably get 8-14 applications out of the jar or roughly $9-15 per application. Really not that bad when you put it in perspective. I expect the Onyx to last 3 months to 5 months if the weather doesn't get too crazy. I hear the more expensive stuff like Mystery & Crystal Rock can last anywhere from 6 months to a year. I also don't have the funds to spend $1,499 on a wax, nor would I. The Concourso or Shield is very tempting though.

Thanks man! Good write up, and after looking at their website I agree. The purity of their wax is the man thing that seems to justify the cost. And as an Apple fan, I can agree with that remark as well. The lack of dust is a real eye raiser for me. Sounds like a good plan and at least the pre-cleaner is a normal price. Rep to you for the help.

yah, actually though, best detailing comes from polishing techniques imho. watever you put on top of it is just preference.

Yeah...don't get caught up on waxes...the real results come from the prep/polishing. High carnauba waxes are cool and all...but you have to deal with them sweating which can be a pain.
