Treated the leather - results
Just to let you all know how things ended up after I treated the leather seats, steering wheel and Nav trim in my 370Z Roadster with Kiwi paste Mink Oil.
I applied it with my fingers, sparingly but enough to do the job. I rubbed it in real well and let it set 5 minutes, then wiped it off and buffed with a micro fiber cloth. The leather really soaked it up. The instructions on the can said to leave it on 24 hours then wipe off, but I wanted to see how the leather was going to react to it before I left it on too long. Plus, I find that if you leave the Mink oil on over night, it kinda dries and is harder to wipe off and buff. I'd rather do two separate light applications the first year, instead of the one heavy application, because of that issue. Plus, once you get the leather nice and conditioned, it's just a matter of hitting it once every year to keep it looking and feeling like new. After I wiped the leather down with the micro, there was no residue and the leather felt nice and smooth and had a rejuvenated look and feel to it. My seats are black and there was no change in the color after the Mink oil treatment. Sometimes the Mink oil will darken the color, but it did not in this case. And no color lifted during the process, the micro cloth showed no sign of any color. I have tried different leather care products over the years, Lexol and etc, and find that you can't beat the Kiwi paste Mink oil. The paste takes just a very little more work to apply than a liquid would, but I like the results much better. I treat my leather jackets, boots and gloves with it too. I will do the leather in my Z probably once more this year, then one time each year after that to keep the leather in top shape. . . . . Last edited by Hi-Step'n370Z; 06-25-2011 at 03:15 PM. |
