ouch. yah, #400 might be too coarse and make the area whiter. if im going to sand it i would use more like #2000 and take my time use plenty of Prima Nero (or Aerospace 303 to lube while sanding).
if that was my car though, i would use a fireplace lighter and heat the scratch to get it back to the darker color. basically place the flame very close and then away and press the area using a bamboo chopstick. (no joke) if that fails i would remove the console and paint it or send it in for CF wrap. |

Shoe shine works great
I tried most of the methods mentioned if nothing worked I was going to just have it vinyl wrabbed with carbon fiber vinyl but I went to Wal-Mart and paid $2.50 for some black kiwi shoe shine and it worked fantastic. Heres the result
