Scratches on center console

Hello All

I installed the GTR starter button this weekend and scratched my center console. Does anyone know a way to remove scratches from interior plastics?

I got a few minor scratches. I used McGuires Interior something or other. It gives it a nice stock shine nothing crazy and it covers them up well.

hmm about using something like a CF piece/kit to take away the focus from the scratches or using a nicely designed and installed decal to hide the scratches.

Excellent idea. However, I don't believe anyone makes a carbon fiber kit for the area that's scratched. Is my assumption correct?

get some fine grit sandpaper (like 400) and try sanding down gently, or maybe a souring pad, be careful though, the idea is to sand down the scratch marks to blend them in.

Do you think sanding would remove the texture of console plastic?

If you are not careful it can, but if you concentrate it on the scratches it will be fine. I did this to a door panel that had scratches and it turned out great. You can use your finger and sand paper to rub right on the scratch carefully.

You can reach out to sponsors such as AJ Carbon Signals. Seeing all the CF parts they do for the car, I'm sure they can work something out for your center console

Sanding might work too, there is still a great chance you'll end up with something worse off. Just my two cents.

I would send in your console part to us to have it wrapped in carbon fiber.... I had the same issue, especially with door panels, but no longer worry about those easy-made scratches.

scratch marks are not raised... they are lowered... you're always going to lose texture on a part like that if you sand it...

I have the sand paper but haven't gotten the nerve to actually sand it yet because I don't want to make the situation worse.

However I have pricing to replace the entire center console and am wondering if I should replace the console or go carbon fiber overlays. I trying to get pricing from some of the sponsors on the forum.....

That is true but if you are careful it will smooth it out and make it a lot less noticable without messing up the texture. And you are not supposed to sand a whole lot to where you are removing a lot of plastic. You are smoothing out the scratch. Sand in the grooves of the scratch and right around the scratch and smooth it out a little. Should look a lot better. But it will not completely remove it. Worked for me.

It's the same concept in buffing out a light scratch in your paint that has not penetrated the metal...

If you want it to be perfect, cover it or by a new one.
