Scratch question
 

I had a small scratch which was about the size of a pine needle and in fact looked like a pine needle resting on my hood. I bought a stick of paint which was the same color as the hood and it seems to have filled in nicely but the problem is that the paint seems flat and the hood which is white has a shine about it which the paint does not. Its not a big deal but it detracts from perfection so I wondered what I need to do do make it so that even with a careful examination you cant notice the difference.

I dont know if this makes a difference but the paint was labeled Cloud White but the finish is Pearl White.. but the store said this paint was a match for the car..It seems to be the same without the gloss..

Have you tried polishing? It might work to bring out the gloss, but it also might pull up the touchup paint if you didn't prep the surface.

You should have never fixed it the way you did. Take a look at these two products. Langka and Dr. Colorchip. Wet sanding by a professional would have been a much better alternative.

Will this work on the Pearl White? The reason I ask is that there is a special finish that .. I cant describe it. but its not just flat plain paint..
Also which of these two do you think it best,,seems like the Lanka is a more through job..

Both products require that you provide the touch up paint. Since you will get that from the dealer, the color match should be exact.

Of the two products, Langka takes longer but is more of the way a professional would use touch-up paint. If the scratch doesn't catch on your fingernail, you could just wet sand it away (not YOU, but a professional).

No reason for me to think that but I would NEVER tell you to wet sand on your car without knowing for a fact that you are. That would be totally careless of me. :)

Totally careless?? No TOTALLY TRUE.. I dont trust my self to clean dirt off the hood.. Might use the wrong grade of sandpaper!!:icon18:

that's a tuff color to match to begin with.

and metallics are tuff to match because the metalic particles are not aligned the same orientation as the rest of the paint causing more or less light to reflect off of them.

I ordered DR Colorchip and we shall see

Follow the instructions to the letter and make sure you post some pics. :tup:

QAB with is the paint code for your white z it is almost impossible to match with touch up paint b/c it is a 3 stage paint,white base,pearl mid coat,topped with clear,that's what gives it the appearance you see,now put white base,pearl mid coat,and mix it together and use it as touch up the color will be off and the metal flake and pearl will be way off b/c they where mixed together and applied instead of spayed or touched up separately.

Sorry for the delay but I was away for two weeks.. I have the DR Color chip product and have used it on very small pits on the front of the car.. dont have pics to show but for these small areas at least I worked well. The original problem on the hood was a slight scratch which I turned into a major problem trying some touch up and hand buff with a turtle wax scratch remover kit.
Fortunately I had my wife's car entirely repainted just about two months ago.. and so I took it to the guy that did the work,,and he buffed out my screw up on the hood for free and now it looks perfect. (I got a new Z and she got a paint job on a ten year old Honda accord with 140 miles..)
I would have to say Dr Color Chip worked well.. but i should have saved money buying the smallest amount as this large size will last forever! ( And dont tell me there is not a hell of a profit in all these car car products!!)
