color match black cherry

I hit a deer this morning on my way to work. I was cruising about 70 on a back road. I got it shut down to about 25-30mph when the last one of the 5 in the road ran into the front end of my car. It only cracked the lower corner of the boomerang on the drivers headlight, put a .5-1 inch crack w/hair in the bumper cover. I am curious just how hard is it going to be for a body shop to color match. I am glad it was just a little doe.

Sorry to hear that. That dear liked the color so much she wanted a closer look. Keep us up to date on the repairs and let us know any special concerns with the color matching.

samb03, it's very easy. I just had a shop respray my door because of a deep scratch (through the clear coat). The guy explained to me that all manufacturers' paints have a paint code, so any body shop should be able to match it. I got the car back Friday, I haven't been able to tell any difference. The body shop I went to is also a car dealership and guarantees their work, so if I notice any discoloration, I can take it right back to them.

Sorry about the misfortune, though.

I feel for you. I had a bumper repaint right off the showroom floor. The good news is, it can be done and if the shop is reputable, the colour should match no problem.

I was worried the Black Rose (Cherry) would not match, but it was fine.

Don't ignore the headlight either. If the crack broke the seal of the light Housing then yu may get condensation fogging up your headlight.

:iagree: That's something you do NOT want to happen.

I also had to have my bumper painted just after I got the Z. The dealer matched it well.

Is the paint quality better or does it still chip in a slight breeze?

Sandra Dee 01-10-2011 02:48 PM

It is better-the body shop manager and I became pals once he knew I was a detailer. He put 3 coats of clear on it-I let it cure for 90 days then clayed and polished then waxed it fat. No salt is going to touch it this winter. :tiphat:

I am better off than the paint it had at the dealer-IMO

This is why I'm glad I got a clear bra. I know that some people don't like them, and understandably so, but seeing how easily the thing scratched while gently rubbing a metal corner, I can't imagine what the rocks on the road would have done to my bumper, hood, mirrors, and A-pillars by now.

Lemers 01-10-2011 08:12 PM

My bumper ain't the problem. I don't have many chips (knock on wood) but the ones I get are usually on the hood and side past where the clear bra would have been. I even have one on top of the car!?! How it got there I have no idea.

awesome news. I know a very good local body shop. There are some colors that are just hard to match. I thought the black cherry looked like one of them.

I contacted my insurance agent today and she is turning in the claim. Hopefully they don't jack with my rates over a deer. I have been with them for 5 years with no claim and a spotless driving record.

wheee! 01-11-2011 07:56 AM

Back in BC, a collision with a deer was considered a "no fault" claim. Pay your deductible and your rates would not change. Hell, I knew people that kept deer hair in their car glove box in case of an "accident"!
Just tuck some into the bumper/headlight/trim and say "Hey! A deer jumped out and hit my car then spun me into this telephone pole....."

samb03 01-12-2011 02:00 AM

they called the this afternoon. I just have to get an estimate from a body shop. I know where I am going. I am thinking about getting rid of the catfish look. Anybody know a ABS plastic aftermarket front bumper. I don't want fiberglass.
