Well sad Junkman, as a bodyshop manager I have seen alot of "snake oil" sold OTC and almost all of it is junk as you stated. If you want professional results use what us professionals use. There are several brands out there and they will provide consistant quality results when used properly. I have personally used 3M products with very good results. Junkyard SEMPER FI from a fellow devil dog.

I too use 3M products when working with 1000 grit paper and lower. It is my product of choice when dealing with body shop grade repairs. I go to Meguiar's when I need a little bit of aggressiveness but most of what I do can be handled with Adam's products. There is no one magic bullet for me, I believe in using the right tools for the job.

That totally depend on how dirty they get. If you are working on a clean car (as you should be), they shouldn't warrant washing every time you get done using them. Only the pads need to be cleaned every time.
