Haze with Quick Detailer

As many people do, i like to apply some quick detailer/detail spray (Whatver you want to call it) as i dry my car off after washing it. after drying a section most/all of the way, i'll spray some detail spray on a nice dry microfiber, wipe away, and wind up with an ugly, matte haze (happens with both plush and waffle weave). i'm not sure if this because of my clear bra, but i would tend to think not because it happens in areas without the clearbra. anyone experience this before or have any idea what would cause it? I appreciate any advice

which quick detailer are you using? That happened to me when i was using Meguiar's Direct Quick Detailer. So i changed to Ice Quick Detailer by turtle wax. And that works great.

I am using the Meguiars Quik Detailer. the one in the maroon bottle. so is this just a result of a poor product, or is it some other factor?

I use two microfiber towels one to apply the detailer and the other to slightly buff (always with the "grain" of the car). I've only experienced the haze if I didn't perfectly buff off the residue.

Yes, That maroon bottle one... that's the one i hated and switched to other product. What Nikon FM saying is also true. you can make it not haze if you buff alOT~! but you can get better product and use less effort to make it better.

That is probably one of the worst QDs out there in my opinion. I would recommend looking at other options, even if you just want to stick with over the counter stuff like Meguiar's Ultimate Quick Detailer or a highly underrated product called Lucas Slick Mist.

I recently switch from the maroon meguiars QD to Adam's QD. Im happy with the move so far

With my clear bra (Ventureshield) I don't use the McGuires QD until after I've waxed the car. You should wax the clear bra just like you would the rest of the car and then when you apply the QD it will work fine. If you don't want to wax the clear bra then I would recommend using Plexus which was made for Ventureshield to clean it and it will shine up just fine.

You should not have to buff the quick detailer a lot. I don't have to buff mine AT ALL. One thing that will happen if you use QD's all the time is a build up of product. When was the last time you POLISHED your paint?

As far as the buffing is concerned, i try to not rub the paint too much or with any kind of force unless the paint is absolutely contaminate free (just clayed)

The Clear bra has wolfgang sealant on it

This makes sense. i haven't polished the car since i had it detailed the day after i bought it. they clayed, polished the whole car and did the clear bra, then applied wolfgang paint sealant, which they said should last me a few months (detail was done in may)

i haven't polished the car since then because i haven't done a full detail. i figured i would detail it before winter and then apply a fresh layer of sealant to help protect the paint from all the salt and grime it would be subjected too, despite being frequently washed during the winter. i awas under the impression that i should have a contaminate free surface, ie have clayed the car/area, before any kind of polish is applied in order to avoid grinding any of those contaminates into the paint. if i am mistaken, i wouldn't mind polishing the car periodically and applying some more sealant without claying. is my understanding correct or am i mistaken? I appreciate your input!

Whether or not to clay is determined by one thing: the baggie test. If it fails the test, you clay. If it doesn't, then claying is not necessary. If there is no need to clay, then you go straight to polishing. The damage in the in the paint will determine what polish you will use. It is the polishing that makes paint shine, not wax or any quick detailers. My car without a drop of wax on it proves that point:





Polishing is what will bring the pop back to your paint. At that point, you can use your sealant to protect that pop. That's what wax does. It protects the shine you get from polishing.

Thanks Junkman, i really appreciate having an expert like you on here that chimes in to help out with questions. I have adopted as many of your techniques that you've shown in your videos as i can, i forgot about the baggie test though. i will do that after my next wash and depending on that i will polish or clay and polish. i have a full hood/fenders/bumper clear bra, should i just treat this like regular paint in terms of polishing?

Id say you either used too much spray or the surface was still wet when applied. I've had that issue before.

I would not have done anything to that clear bra but what the installer recommended. I would not use anything on that clear bra but what the installer recommended. Other than washing and drying it, that would be my suggestion. It is not paint so you can't treat it like paint. The more you do to it, the worse it is for it.

Make sure that you use painters tape to mask off the edges of it. You do not want the polisher rubbing up against the lines of it.

i get the haze when it's kinda humid out. especially when colder and humid is the worst.

i use mostly Griot's SpeedShine and at times i would take a dry MF detailing towel and do a full wipe down at the very end of the QD session. on a dry day i dont need to do this at all.

same with polymer based QD's like Prima Slick.
