Cleaning the Dash

Hi all,

Didn't see a post about this, so I apologize if there is one somewhere in the pages of threads.
Just a quick question as to what you use to clean your dash. Seems as though fingerprints and such show up really bad and is a pain to keep clean.
Also, I don't have the navigation system, so there's the leather-like cover over the cubby-hole area (for lack of better words in my rush to post this). What do you use to clean that?

What are you wearing? when you're doing the cleaning of course

In all seriousness, I use the Ice line of car care products, including their interior cleaner on the plastic, on the cloth just a damp rag with a cleaner will suffice. I'm not sure on the leather parts though... I can't remember the name of the leather cleaner/conditioner preferred.

I use a interior car duster and some Prima Nero 50/50 with water.

No finger prints, dries matte. Also protects from future scuffs.

for the leathers i use Griot's LeatherCare spray. very easy to use, no smudges, dries matte. nothing easier to use.

just spray into your MF applicator towel and wipe away. that's it.

Where can you find the Prima Nero 50/50 and Griot's at?
I've not heard of either of those.

for Prima you can buy from one of the vendors here: www.detailersdomain.com

for leathers can't you use Lexol as well?

I use 303 Aerospace Protectant on all the leather and plastics and if I feel like stripping off the old dressings, I will use Optimum Power Clean at 10:1 (10 parts water, 1 part Power Clean) and then reapply 303. 303 also has light cleaners which will remove surface dust and dirt while protecting too which is nice.

sure you can, but the LeatherCare Spray is just too easy to use... you can't really mess up.

Nero has a more matte finish than Aerospace303.

Ask Ken what he uses to clean his garage. I'll bet it's a secret and he won't tell you!

wish i could find something for the door panels. the driver's side already looks faded in some areas. and im very safe about not rubbing aganist them.

next time i detail i'm gonna have them steam cleaned.

if your steering wheel is oily and you want the OG look use a mr clean magic eraser. But don't use it often! it gets addicting. the secret is out!! shhhh

kenchan 10-13-2010 09:51 AM

i really dont recommend magic eraser. those foams are quite abrasive. they belong on pots and pans, stove tops, kitchen sinks.

as for the door panels Prima Nero/Aerospace303 will do a great job of bringing back the dark black color without the greasy feeling. Nero 50/50 with water will be best though from my experiements. it's best to apply BEFORE you have any scuffs though.

for the arm rests on the door panels try cleaning it with Griot's Interior Cleaner on a MF towel. works great. :p
