Got backed onto my door

A couple of days ago my GF's father backed into my car by accident while exiting on the steep driveway to go get some groceries... I heard my door fold in and out like a soda can in slow motion *terrible sound*. Right now the huge dent fix and paint labor is said to involve replacement of body panel for the door and painting/blending the side with 3 stage paint. Anybody had this kind of repair performed in the car? any pointers as to how to spot paint/replacement issue for this? i'm scared the final repair not being perfect

The door is aluminum and will need replacement. If a shop tells you otherwise, find a new shop because a bondo job will never look right. As long as there is no damage to the rear quarter panel, it can be repaired back to like new condition. It looks like its just the door, so replacing it with a genuine part will make for a very close fit compared to factory. They can just paint the door by itself so issues like overspray can be avoided.

I was quoted for a replacement of the door outer panel part. The outside of the door is a separate sheet of metal from the door frame that slides in and is glued on. *wonder if this is the only aluminum part of the door* I don't like the prospect of painting the whole side of the car, but they state that matching/blending the paint by painting only the door is not possible. *

They are being forthright with you as they will skin the door and repaint. The paint match will depend on several key factors that a good painter understands and can achieve.

they can paint only the door and get it to match if they are wanting to put the itme into it. will take them some tries.

May not be a bad idea to get the c/f door

and just get that painted.

but yeah depends on the quality and effort the body shop wants to put in. Will def need new door panel.

P.S keep your old door panel. Attach 4 legs and a back rest and everytime your gf's dad visits make him sit in that seat.

agreed! ^ but its coming to the 2011 Z wit the nav package.... they better not increase the price of the nav pack

You're going to have to paint most of the side of the car. They will not be able to match the white paint unless they do.
