Lesson Learned: BIRDS!

A few days ago, on my drive to work a bird left a massive crap on my car which oddly enough resembled the shape of Jesus praying.

I ignored it as I was busy and was planing to wash/wax the car a few days later.

Today I washed and waxed the car. The spot where Jesus was is no longer the same shade as the rest of the car. I am pretty upset about this because I knew that the acids in bird dropping can devolve the clear coat and leave a mark.

So, please wash every bird dropping (even the ones resembling Jebus!) immediately, especially in the summer where the sun only speeds up the corrosion process.

Yup, my car is black and everytime I come back to the car when it's outside I do a quick scan for bird crap. Even being on there for 8 hours will seriously eat the clear coat. So far I found this works best for getting the stain out.

I will wash bird crap off My 370z as soon as I get home. When I had my 350z I would let bird crap sit for 6 months before washing it off. I guess Washington bird crap has less acid.

This particular bird really damaged my paint! The little bastard must have had some stomach problems. I hope he dies of heartburn!

Just kidding of course.

You never know what those bastards have been eating. Sometimes your paint is fine, sometimes it's shot in just a few hours. No reason to chance it.

Yep, bird bombs can be deadly to your clear coat for a couple of reasons.

Their little systems are full of some pretty nasty digestive juices to dissolve things like insect exoskeletons, seeds, and plant matter. That translates to some pretty acidic turds.

Add to that some birds eat small pebbles to help in digestion, and some of the bug bits aren't fully digested when they leave their system. Now not only is the stuff gonna etch your paint, but if you're not careful about how you remove it the wiping action could lead to swirls and/or scratches.

I use my Waterless Wash sprayer on 'stream' and use that to knock as much of the matter off of the finish, then saturate the spot on the spray setting making sure to flip the towel with each pass, until the entire bomb is gone.

I try to follow that up as soon as possible with a fresh coat of wax to restore the protection to the surface.

I've used Mequiars Ultimate compound(does'nt scratch paint),followed by Klasse All-In-One sealant/protectant. Just don't let it sit spray with detailer or water at least.

The little yellow ones are the worst on Peal White. If you don't get to them they can leave a faded yellow stain!
