+! on Dr. Colorchip. Used it on my PW 370Z. No problem, good match!

You got a rock chip? Probably time for a new car then

Rock chips are a given on my dd. I have zero swirl marks but have about 30 or so on mine. Imagine 30 unmatched Dr. Colorchip spots on the front. Pearl White with freckles. I'll have it repainted and then bra'd after.

I'm reasonably finicky when it comes to my cars, but I realize that rock chips will happen on the front bumper and air dam.

However, I was taking a look at a pearl white 2016 Nismo locally for sale, and there was a chip right in the middle of the driver's door right through to bare metal, probably from a "door-ding," but there is no dent associated with it. Oblong-shaped, longest dimension 1/4".

Because of the positioning of this mark, it's a deal-breaker for me. Having to look at it every time I open the door would drive me mad! I've read through this thread...it looks like spot repairing something like this will not end up with satisfactory results. True? Even if I had a paint shop do it?

How well would a complete door panel paint job match the rest of the car? Would it be especially noticeable depending upon the angle of the light?

Should not be a problem but depends on your painter so don't skimp.

Which wouldn't be a problem...a spot repair, or a complete door?

Should I be worried about this? I tried detail spray and claybar but it's not coming off. It's on the roof of my car.

That's what I'm thinking. I drove her off the lot a month ago. Any idea on what it could be? I hope it doesn't need a repaint

My 2011 Black cherry has so many rock chips in it... I used to try to keep up with them religiously, but I finally decided that it was time. Body shop quoted me $1400 to re spray the front end ( bumper, hood, and fenders ) it goes in the end of the month. everything from fenders back is 100% pristine. I'll be glad to get her back to her old self.

Clear Bra for the same area on my car cost me about $600. The front end is still pristine 39 months later.

Just cant seem to bring myself to do it. Actually, most of my damage was on the first 12" of the hood, so I would obviously have to clear bra that as well. The thought of seeing the line across the hood makes me cringe. I'd sooner just continue with my chip repair, and re=spray when necessary.
But that's just me.

I get it....For me though, the rock chips on my 2011 Black Cherry made me cringe. That was the point where I decided that my next Z was going to have a clear bra. The rock chips looked like crap...far worse than the line on hood. I can't remember what they wanted to clear bra the whole hood so no line there, but I know that the total package would have been a lot less than $1200 for a re-spray...which would look good until the next round of rock chips.

My new red 2018 goes in for 3M clear tomorrow.Only 18 " up on the hood ,fenders & "A" pillars. Also putting a piece on the hatchback so the finger prints don't make a mess every time I close it .I've had several different light & dark colour cars with the 3M clear & never had a problem "seeing the line".When I wax/polish the car I have to catch it with my finger nail to find it, then I use painters masking tape on the edge of the 3M tape so the polish doesn't build up at the tape edge.Even if it does, a tooth pick of soft toothbrush will clean it out.
