IronX?
Finally got around to detailing my Z after initial purchase 6 months ago. I went all in and got every thing Meguiars from Clay bar to interior cleaning wipes. Products actually worked out really well as I remember, except for one detail, I have a bunch of little rust spots across the whole car. Got on another thread and was told its iron deposits and I should get a product called IronX to correct it. I've got it ordered but haven't had a chance to use it yet. Has any one here used this product? Also any one have long term issues with this on PW cars?

What you are seeing is iron fillings attached to the clear coat. You can remove these by clay barring, or alternatively use Iron-X which will dissolve them. Iron-X is relatively safe but take caution when spraying around break calipers. Also make sure you wear gloves and use it in a well ventilated area because it smells like a dead skunk.

madcow is right, clay bar will remove above the surface iron fillings, but iron x will dissolve below the surface of the clear coat. excellent surface prep for a long lasting finish!

I did clay bar it, I was either not patient enough with it, or because the car sat on the lot for over a year than another 6 months in my drive way with out any real paint care it needs some thing a little stronger. I'll be giving the iron-x a try with the next wash. Thanks for the input guys.

Claying should get rid of any surface contaminants. Either you are not claying properly (see Junkman2008's paint care threads on this site such as http://www.the370z.com/detailing-was...ge-videos.html) or the filings are embedded in the paint.
RustX is a great product but it is rather harsh so follow the directions and, as others have mentioned, be careful what it gets on. |

I just purchased a car from Cali, it has never had a "proper" wash, I'll show you the results of iron-x, it was pretty severe. I had to iron x twice and clay bar twice on the car for a perfectly clean surface ready to be buffed.

It's really impossible to see iron-x working on a black car, I've done it to a black Camaro and black hummer and you can only tell when it drops off and leaves the concrete purple
