Brilliant Silver Paint Mottling
So I wanted to see if any of you have came across slight mottling after a paint repair . So unfortunately someone at work clipped my car while it was parked. Not a big deal took it to Nissan Dealership to be repaired, all in all they replaced fender bumper and repainted the areas . All looks great except the hood , which the first time they painted it the blend mark was very noticeable. They spoke with PPG and they took it back and PPG came in an repainted it , looks much much better however during certain lighting i can see the micah lays differently and it almost looks a bit mottled over the entire hood , mainly at sunrise or sunset from 2 feet . Now i brought this up and they said they can repaint again but are honest and think its the best it will be and is "normal even from factory" . Do you guys think i'm being too picky or would you chase this issue even further knowing the risk could just keep on occurring. ..

Dumb question, Are they using the original color code K23?
I know thats the 09 code but Im sure they didn't change it for the 11 model. If they're color matching? Then thats why it's a tad off. If you can ask a couple of people "Hey could you tell they repainted my car?" And IF they have trouble noticing? Your just noticing it more since you know. |

The color is good as far as the match it's mainly in specific light from certain angles you can vaguely see some mottling , most ppl prolly wouldn't see it but once I noticed it I do . I drove the car to meet up with the body shop manager early in the morning and he agreed that it's the mica not evenly laid so met with PPG who agreed to respray but said they can say it will eliminate it all . Body shop manager said he wouldn't respray but I'm saying yes .. I mainly am torn between to redo or not .. I mean if PPG is willing to respray mine as well and hope it comes out improved Atleast that's where I'm at now

Shading differences at the match margin at different, especially low, light angles is more often due to the clear coat, or even the wax layer, than it is the actual paint itself. Just lack of orange peeling in a body shot paint job will do that. I wouldn't worry about that until I'd had a chance to buff the whole body panel down, wax it, and give it a little time. Having said that, they shouldn't be blending on a body panel IMHO, especially the hood, which will be most susceptible and visible to light reflection. They should be repainting the entire panel.
