Wheel cleaning question
Hi everyone whats readers prefered wheel cleaner as there seems to be a bounty of them and many are corrosive?? And after reviewing them at autozone i left without any as to run this by readers . Two i considered were mothers and eagle one . So whats you pick? Thx d

I use warm soapy water and a firm brush
|
I run race brakes (hawk plus) that are messy as hell, so I'm cleaning mine out quite a bit.
I just hit em with the pressure washer. Works great. (sorry if that is not exactly what you asked) |
Ok these are the simplest solutions without cost or chemical damage i have a pressure washer hooked on the house in the side driveway . So no brainer there hello thx d

Diluted Simple Green is safe for the wheels if you insist on using some form of cleaner :twocents:

These are aluminum rims... so if you won't put it on the hood of your car don't put it on your rims.
i use meguiar's gold wash to wash my car and at the end i use the old water to clean the rims. cleaning /washing regulrly keeps the dust low and easy to take off. |
If you have custom finished wheels, please do not use brushes on the wheels.
The Eagle One spray on, hose off cleaner (forgot the product name) is excellent! I used to use it frequently and just simply ran out of it and haven't bought more. I've used Simple Green but nothing touches the wheel cleaners that are designed to remove grime, oils, etc. by spraying and hosing off. At this point, hand washing with soapy water and a microfiber mitt is good. I clean my car so frequently that it's rarely too dirty. I hit it with rinse/soapy warm water with the pressure washer then hand wash and rinse the wheels. Following up with a quick detail spray and a microfiber towel never hurts, too! |
Chemical guys Diablo wheel cleaner would be my bet. Its an all wheel cleaner. You just have to agitate it with a soft bristle brush and rinse it.

Good Ol soap and water and a terry cloth mit.

I just use regular car wash soap (Meguiar's Gold Class) and a Speed Master Wheel Brush. The brush really helps to get the inside of the rims.

Daytona Speed Master, hot water and Dawn. Followed with a good spray wax.

I use Sonax or Adams wheel cleaner, Wheel Woolie brushes, Adams boar hair brush, and
Adams trim and lug brush. |
i use griot's car shampoo and a boar's hair brush.
on my Z and G that i never wash since they arent driven in the wet, i use QD (griots speedshine) only. i spray the wheel, wipe off, then i also wipe off the overspray on the calpers and rotors until shiny. |
I used to use simple dish soap and a separate bucket with separate woollies and sponges just for the rims and tires. Later I read in Consumer Reports that Eagle One A2Z was rated best in their tests, so I gave it a try. It does work pretty well and you don't need to scrub as much, so that's what I've been sticking with lately. I get the larger container, but I don't use the build in spray nozzle; it's total crap. Instead, I purchased my own spray bottles and pour the solution into those with a label instead. That works a lot better. So my vote is Eagle One A2Z.
I have also tried using my steam cleaner, but that doesn't work very well either. Brake dust likes to cling tenaciously to the rims and it does seem to take a bit of elbow grease to get it off. It's easy to find if you take a swipe with a cloth or your finger, and get a lot of black on it even though it's not easy to see it on the rims themselves, unless it's been a long time since they were last cleaned. |
