I've had good luck as already mentioned using hair drier. Then 3m adhesive remover. If all else fails like the thread you linked to you can lightly wet sand and buff out. ive pulled it off and older Nissan with black pain and had no issues.

That was my thread!

As I mentioned in it, I just used a hair dryer and went slow to pull the decal off. There was a ton of residue left over, so it actually took 3 passes with the Goo-Gone to get it all off. There was little bit of paint fading, but it's not really noticeable unless you're looking for it.
