Carbon Fiber Care?

Hi guys,

I recently bought a Seibon CF hood and Evo-R CF front fang. I just wanted to know of any recommendations on how to clean the CF. Which products work best on them. Thanks for the answers in advance!

You should check with the manufacturers to be sure, but most CF parts are clear coated, so a good wash, clay bar and application of your favorite wax or sealant should do the job.

Hey,

Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for your help!

Evo-r stuff will yellow in sunlight unless you have it re-cleared.

Everyone I've ever met with carbon fiber anything has eventually needed to get it re cleared. Not sure if it's a quality thing or just how it is with carbon fiber, but it's what keeps me from getting large Carbon fiber parts lol.

Clear all of it now. 1-2 coats at least

I find it interesting that many comments-advice on CF are from guys that do not have
or,"heard" from someone about CF.
OK,I have CF my 370 and had plenty on my Z33.
I'll give you my 2 cents.
First of all, all the clearcoat info is not really accurate.
For sure,if you have a CF hood or a part that is in direct sunlite(roof, wing etc).
It may be good to clear coat it. Also,is the car garaged or parked in the weather?
Thats a factor.
Most CF comes resin coated. Not clear coated. On the comment on EVO-R(yellowing).
I've not had that problem. Of course,my item was a Mines lip.Service with EVO-R,thats another
story,lol.
It was perfect after 4years on the car just with regular waxing.
I have quite a few pieces from Shine. Again, their product is resin coated.
All have been perfect.I have various CF accessories: B-pillar covers, mirror base and
inside door barrel covers. All from ZCFcovers. All great stuff and lasts
To summarize, its the old ."pay for what you get" deal.
You buy cheap stuff ,it will look bad when you get it.AIT stuff can be
pretty bad.
It will need clearcoating.
Just use the same wax you use on your car for CF. I love Auto Glym high definition wax.

Unfortunately, my car is parked out on the street all the time in the sunlight . I'm not a fan of parking underneath trees because I hate getting tree sap on the car. Hopefully my next place I get, I'll have a garage. I'm going to give Auto Glym high definition wax a try. Thanks!

You're gonna want to get the Seibon clear coated for sure. You won't need the EVOR fang clear coated because its not in direct sunlight.

I'd get the fang cover done anyway. It's cheap, and Evo-r's coating is borderline nonexistent.

Is there a treatment that would do anything for CF exhaust cans? Obviously they don't need protection from sun, and there is a higher heat factor when considering various products. But it would be nice if there was something that could help them stay cleaner longer than just wiping them down with soap and water. Right now I find myself cleaning them weekly (I've had them about a month), and I'm not really interested in keeping that up that pace.

I use griots garage rubber and vinyl spray on my interior and my old cars stuff I had. So far after two years they are still shinny and no yellowing. It's uv protection and restorer.
