The flex is unique in that it's a direct drive like a rotary but still has random orbiting heads. In that sense its performance should be close to onpar with a rotary buffer. Not all DAs are like that, though. Also, making it direct drive also makes it less user friendly; that is to say, you're more likely to damage your paint if you don't know what you're doing. You should consider the flex as a step between a DA and a true rotary buffer.

For anyone who is new to the game! The PC7424XP is the way to go hands down.
