1342KM (1.5 month) Oil Change

This is what the oil looks like after 1342KM:

This is what left over:

If I knew the oil looks like this after 1342KM, I would of changed it at 1000KM or even sooner. BTW, in case some of you are wondering, I am doing slow breakin, under 4K RPM.

Wow, that looks pretty black. I did the same as you for break-in. My shift points were around 3-3.5K and my first oil change was at 2400kms. But my oil was much cleaner than yours looks in the pictures.
If you still have some of that old oil left, maybe you should have it analyzed (?).

BTW, I am using a magnetic drain plug and a magnetic "clamp" around my oil filter to attract metal that's circulating in the engine. (A.K. gave me the idea.... simple, yet effective.)

I did the same as well. Filter Mag and Kic Mag filter plug.

Also, about 4 litres came out only and 5.4 litres went in. Came to a surprise for me as well.

Which oil did you use for your first change? I used Nissan Ester.

Amsoil 5W30 full synthetic with the Nissan filter.

Doesn't look good at all...:shakes head: I would keep it in case of problems in the futur...
Maybe do another oil change in 1K and compare results.
ps. If similar, talk to your dealer asap.
ps2. Do not use synthetic oil until all those pieces are gone...

I am not too worried about it. I think it's typical that new engine has small particles; that's why I made an early oil change.

But will do another oil change around 3K-4K and if I still see that many particles, I will start to worry.

Yikes! That oil is really black..
Particles are normal during break-in... I changed my revup v2 motor's oil at 200km after a hard break-in and it showed tiny amounts of particulate..

However, I would be concerned that you lost 1.5 ltr's of oil.... That is a rather large amount, even for break-in.

I poured the old oil to a 3.78L windsheild container and toped it off and alittle change. So I think I got about 4.3L of old oils out.

The car ran smoother (shift and accelerate). I will do another oil change at 4K or so to see how much oil comes out.

Why would you "not" use synthetic? :ugh2:

I don't think that's all that bad. I used 1.5 litres of oil during my first 2400 kms. Not unusual at all.

YamahaR6 08-19-2009 09:43 AM

My next oil change will be Red Line synthetic. I think 1342km is still early for synthetic. I know there's going to be debate on this...BMW, Porsche, Benz...all use synthetic from factory...bla bla bla...

But bottom line is...whatever makes you sleep better at night.

Uh and doesn't Nissan use the Ester oil from the factory as well? Its a synthetic as well (Ester is a class V synthetic)

YamahaR6 08-19-2009 01:58 PM

I "think" Nissan Ester oil are Dino oils with Ester additives. (from what I read)

6MT 08-19-2009 02:32 PM

Careful folks.... this might start another oil war.

btw, Nissan "Ester" oil is a synthetic and it is used right from the factory in our engines

FricFrac 08-19-2009 09:18 PM

From what we can tell its based on the Pennzoil Platinum synthetic....
