*tips hat* I'm happy for you - hopefully I'll be joining in on my own celebration by end of next week :).

Are you mounting the stock license plate cover and do you know whether you have to drill into the bumper to mount it?

6MT 07-28-2009 11:36 AM

You poor guys in Ontario that "need" a front license plate (sorry). There are already pilot holes in the front cover.

one drawback about the z is the bose system SUCKS. HARD.

no, i don't think so. volume, clarity, and lows are all sub-par.
imo, the bose system is horrible. period.

He wouldn't be the first to complain about the bose system...there's many threads on that in this forum. The sound is decent enough for my tastes too, but it is not "audiophile" quality, especially the bass.

You should probably get the manual out and do some serious adjustments. Mine (after some tweaking) is above average. (Read: very good.) But, I am 46 years old and a former loud listening junkie. Maybe my ears aren't as good as they used to be. But for me, it's a wonderful sounding system. Now if only you could "lessen" the road/engine noise.

I think you may come around after some seat time.

Congrats on your ride. Go out and key it so you can get over the sickness of scratches, dings and chip then you can really enjoy it!

I use to do car audio install with some pretty fancy custom installs and high end equipment. My equipment in my 280ZX at my cost was over $4k. The BOSE isn't that great but its pretty decent for a stock system. The integration and features are great.

I laugh at all the "audiophiles" with the crazy equipment in a CAR, sound proofing, etc - possibly the worst sound stage possible on this planet.

I did upgrade my stereo though. Stillen G3 CAI, HFC and CBE and both window's rolled down - never get sick of that song ;)

don't get me wrong everyone...

i'm not one of those guys who wants the bass so loud and powerful so as to shake the street.

i just want to be able to listen to my zeppelin & beatles albums at max volume (which i don't think is loud enough to begin with) while maintaining near-perfect clarity... i was a bass player in a hard rock band for years, so i like it loud.

upon further consideration, i think "horrible" and "sucks" were too strong. the system is simply sub-par for my personal listening preferences

I don't thimk that any system (sans a lot of $$$) could be "cranked" and expect to have perfect clarity. As the previous poster said, the Bose system is good and I agree.

i have experienced near-perfect clarity at max volume on factory systems many times. having said that, i agree with you 100% that perfect clarity would cost much more than it's worth

You need amps to have clarity at volume and likely better speakers depending on what dB level your "loud" is.

I find it odd to use the phrase audiophile in the same sentence as car audio. Although audiophile sounds are available in a vehicle, it is usually in a properly designed room etc. I find the 370Z BOSE audio to be pretty good once the volume is up a bit, and certainly the road noise is a problem. I was an audiophile many years ago when my ears could tell the difference and had the room and reference speakers/system to be able to tell the systems apart. Too many people consider "good" audio when they are being bounced across the floor due to the bass amplification. Music/sound is personified, but when you use the word audiophile, that means the most accurate representation to the actual recording possible, and I don't think the musicians were being bounced around the studio with all the equalizer settings on max. My two bits anyway.

matt2112 07-30-2009 08:45 AM

ok, so i took the advice of those who offered it, and tweaked my stereo further (beyond the simple adjustments made before leaving the dealership)...

i now believe the bose system to be adequate. by no means is this an excellent system, but it does the job is was designed to to. after tweaking, the lows are much more crisp at max volume, which was my main concern.

my initial quick judgment was wrong, and i thank everyone whose comments pushed me to reconsider :tiphat:

We're here for ya bro :) Just want you to get the most out of this fine piece of machinery ;)
