The door handles aren't actually metal. They're eplated.

Marcusz 03-27-2013 09:14 PM

Can they still be powdercoated ?

bdavis89 03-27-2013 09:16 PM

What colors?

Can the handles be painted to match powdercoated wheels?

No. You can only powder coat metals

dP3NGU1N 03-28-2013 02:56 AM

The handles are plastic and will melt. The powerdercoat process requires the metallic powder on top to be heated. get them painted instead.

Mike 03-28-2013 07:29 AM

actually, it depends. Some plastics can be powdercoated, if they don't melt at 375 degrees. I powdercoat plastic intake manifolds and plastic fuel rail covers and wheel centercaps from the C6 corvette. The handles may or may not melt. I've never tried to do them, but if they can handle the heat, they can be coated if the coater knows what he is doing.

that being said, mine are painted.

Thanks for chiming in mike. Shame nobody has been a guinea pig. Can you get the handles painted to match powder coated wheels?

Lol, yes, this is correct, but 99.9% of the time, you can't powdercoat plastics, that's why I say "no"
I've done some specialty ABS plastics and some Delrin products for a company and it was ok. I just couldn't tell you the plastic used on the handles.
I'll send my spare set to a shop to see if they can analyze it

Yes

DEpointfive0 03-28-2013 09:32 AM

That was quick... They said they can't tell, but I can send them out to a company to check...
(Who wants to pay, LOL)

It's better to paint them! Mine are painted too

MrSir 03-28-2013 01:45 PM

phil painted mine, give him a call. if you are taking them off yourself be mega super careful the stupid bolts inside are pretty much glued to the plastic, i ended up tearing right through it, had to super glue things back together. They still rattle abit.

Tips:

1. after painting them dont use the button on the door, it is very likely it will chip the paint
2. get ready for visible scratches on them especially if they are a dark color. If you have wide front wheels they toss debri right up the diagonal of the door through the door handles. And there is always the ocassional key or button ding on them.

Ok i was going to powder coat them black ,the same as the wheels,im going to drop everything off monday so ill ask him then when he see s them

Marcusz 04-12-2013 07:11 PM

Wheels are done, callipers, rotors, door handles ,I'm pretty happy with the finish product, tomorrow it all goes back on ready for monday audio install yihaaaaaaa
