There is no summer/winter tire law in Vancouver. We barely even get any snow.

The winter tire law is in the Province of Quebec. The Province of Ontario has no such law.
Kind of arbitrary here because Quebec is the other side of the river for me and believe it or not, the river does not protect us from winter on this side. This link outlines the provincial laws, regulations and options. Getting to know snow tire laws in your province

I think soon enough Ontario will also be enforcing this, I know they are already "studying" it.
Must be rough eh? spend x,xxx, xxx amount of money to study if winter tires are safer in a winter climate

As long as the Parliament of Ontario is controlled by Southern Ontarians (esp. Toronto), there will likely never be such a law here. Toronto gets very little snow - 15 cm a couple of weeks ago was the most they'd seen in 5 years. In Ottawa, we call 15 cm a nice day.
Maybe they should start with mandating all-seasons. I was in the GTA at Christmas and saw lots of fools driving with summer tires. Even help push a guy driving a BMW with nice wide summer tires - he was stuck in about 2 inches of snow. Ditto a guy with a Merc. Seriously though, it's sad that this needs to be legislated. Anyone who has driven with snows would not go back to all seasons and would never think of getting thru a winter with summer tires.

Here in Southern Ontario its the salt that keeps me off the roads. They cake that stuff on so heavily that everything is white even without snow. I usually wait until after a few good rains before I bring out the car.
In BC everyday is a rain day so you would'nt have that issue out there, plus they are probably smart enough to not use salt.
