My experience when purchasing the 370z.
Mar 9 2009
I emailed dealers within 100km of my area asking for a deal for the 370z. Some of them response and many ignored but the dealer I emailed back and forward was Maple Nissan. Mar 11 2009 Dropped by Maple Nissan and finalized the figure we agreed on, paid my $3000 deposit and signed the paper. (Ordered CS with Orange Nav + Sport). Henry (the sales rep) tried to locate my car, but of course, none of the options I request could be found (as expected), so I had to have a custom order (3 months wait). Since I signed the papers, I been bugging Henry everyweek asking for updates. Henry was very patient and tried to update me on the status of my car but what was told from Japan Nissan is "in production", so he was in the dark as I am. June 11 2009 After 3 months of waiting, I could call off the deal, but I waited this long already, why not another couple weeks. I am thinking the same thing as many of you "Did the dealer screw me over? Is the car really coming? Was my deal too good that the dealer backed off and sold my car to someone else?" I asked Henry, "Would Nissan Canada after 3 months tell you that you can't get the car?" Replied "Of course not, we will let you know ahead of time if we can't get you the car, not after awhile." But finally the status of my car changed from "production" to "at port" (Vancouver). I was told that the status should have been "at sea" and then "at port" but I guess the status update is not accurate. I was told that it takes about another 2 weeks from Vancouver to get the car here to Toronto. Next status should be "on rail" and then "compound"; but who knows. June 23 2009 I called the dealer for the status of my car. Eventually, they mis-located the car at the compound, but after Henry made couple of calls, he was able to locate my car and it's on the rail on its way to Toronto. The expected arrival date is Friday. June 26 2009 Once again, the car is delayed and still showing "on rail". I am hoping to pickup the car on June 29 2009, but it seems like it's going to be delayed again. June 30 2009 The status is show "at compound" (Toronto). The car should be at the dealership today or July 2 2009. Not sure if I can pickup the car on the same day it arrived (Takes about 1 day to PDI). But if not July 3rd would be the day. Time to prepared the certified funds, insurance and ready for the call for pickup. July 2 2009 The car is finally at Toronto compound. The car is suppose to arrive at the dealship the next day. July 3 2009 The car is supposed to be at the dealership today. But went I got to the dealership, guess what, it's not there. I felt quite pissed, but they said that they didn't get the document to pickup the car, but instead, I asked if they got a VIN, Henry looked all over and found it. So at least now I have a car that's mine waiting at the compound. The car is going to be at the dealership on Monday. And if all goes well, pickup date is July 7 2009. July 6 2009 ONCE AGAIN, the car is not at the dealership! I am starting to get unpatient. I was told it's going to be at the dealership next day morning and I demand to have it at night. July 7 2009 After 3 months and 26 days, and countless hours, minutes and seconds, I picked up the car. Conclusion The dealers didn't intend to keep the buyers in the dark, it's because they dont' know themselves. Suppose a VIN should be given, but that didn't happen until the car is here, so if you didn't get your VIN, it doesn't mean your car is not coming. Status update is different, it's random, another person ordered 2 weeks before me got the procedure status (eg. at sea, at port, on rail, etc) but mine just didn't. Maple Nissan is a good and honest dealership, they tried to help me out, I would definetly recommend them to anyone. Eventhough there were some delays and "mis-location" of my car, it wasn't Maple's fault. They tired to keep me updated. For those who are still waiting for their car, HANG IN THERE, everything will be fine. All is well... Hope this will help those who are waiting.... Last edited by YamahaR6; 07-07-2009 at 01:42 PM. |

Funny how easy it is to track a package via UPS, USPS, Fed-EX, etc, but you can't track your car! Should be able to get an on demand status 24/7/365 via the internet. Now there's a sales tool!

It was seriously an adventure. Will for sure treasure the car more.
And the "mis-located" was the most intense part of the waiting. Another guy ordered 1 week before me got his car 3 weeks ago (both cars were ordered the same time). I was starting to check out other dealership for their inventories. But glad my custom order worked out. Pictures will be coming soon. |

After waiting this long and I can't have the car, "super pissed" would be an understatement.
I am sure they won't screw the customers over. Yes, it can be quite fustrating when they tell you they "mis-located" the car; it sounds riduculous, but that's what I was told (or happened). I am sure if it was an excuse, they can come up with a better one, ex (paper work not ready). But anyways, just my thought. |

Wouldn't want to wait for the 2010 model. I was told and also I believe the 2010 model will be more expensive.
350Z > 10K than 370Z. Not saying the 2010 model will be 10K more, but I believe there's an increase. Look at the GTR, 89K when it first came out in 2008 (correct me if I am wrong), and 2009 model is at 99K. Besides, I don't think there are big changes. |
