as i said, if you want better fuel economy on the automatic, use the tip tronic and shift yourself. The automatic usually cruises in 4th-5th gear at 60km/h in the city. With the tip tronic you can kick it in 6th, it drops about 200rpm, which makes a difference. Then on the highway, if you need to accelerate and floor it, the car will drop to 5th, maybe even 4th if you are going abit slower. Which in most cases is unnecessary just dropping form 7th to 6th, going about 110km/h - 120km/h you will get enough power to over take or complete your acceleration. Similar to the city driving scenario that saves fuel too.
But ye as others said the city mileage vs. highway is very big. By my estimates highway you can do 9-10L/100km but city is more like 15-16L/100km. Driving to work and back (scarborough to downtown) i waste as much gas as going from toronto to kitchener 1 way.

good one. If locked onto 6k rpm I would say to furious!
Big C - you are aware that our VQ engines tend to run on the hot side right? Because it would probably hit limp mode if you drove around at 6k rpm for any real length of time. Unless you have an oil cooler and other mods to support this kind of use. You are basically keep it at track levels on the street. CRAZY! Any way I guess at least I know I'll hear u coming!!........ And just as soon as u are there u would be gone!

Do you have a radar detector yet???? I am also wanting one of these to as I tend to it more often then not. I just hate the F*ing cops! next option is full carbon fiber body! (Apparently it is harder to get a reading off of a carbon fiber body, so I have been told. Plus it would be total sweetness to have!)

So i decided to try my luck and see if i can get the 550-600 that some of you are getting with a mix of city and hwy and bingo i am on track of getting those numbers, simple just never go above 2k rpm and you will do just fine...my Z is my daily so filling up after 8-9 days is ideal vs every 5 days....

I in no way drive my car like that and I still get decent mileage. I mean when the opportunity is there I love putting the hammer down and throwing it sideways around corners. You shouldnt have to baby the car to get decent mileage out of her. When I shift it tends to be around the 4k mark for normal driving conditions.

I don't think any kind of body material such as carbon fibre can avoid laser type radars. They used to say that vette's like mine with a radiator that is sloped at an angle vice vertical could not be detected in the good ole days because the beam was deflected upwards due to the rad angle. Probably not.

i get between 550 to 600 out of every tank. What i realized is when i fill up my car during the day i only get 500 with a full tank, but someone told me to try filling up first thing in the morning and i could get extra kms and it worked. i fill it up in the morning now and i get extra 50 to 80 kms more. you should try it.
Reason why? gas expands as the day goes by with the heat, but if you fill it in the morning you get more gas for your dollar. |
