Torontonians please explain this too me....
WTF is up with you guys and your horns? Seriously. Its like a honking disease. I was staying at my sister's place downtown and this guy runs out of gas just before the intersection (dumbarse yes). Once you stop for more than a 1/10th of a second the horns start blaring. So the guy puts his hazards on and goes and gets gas. EVERYONE honks at the car with the flashers on weather its in their lane or not - its like some sort of sick sport. So the guy gets back while people honk at the empty car. There are three lanes and traffic is light and really he's not holding traffic up at all. He's filling his car up - you know fixing the problem and people are still honking. It gets to a point where honking doesn't mean anything. Its like writing every single sentance with an exclamation mark.
So... what's the deal? Am I missing something here? I've been to every major Canadian city multiple multiple times and there is no comparison anywhere - even the majority of the US citys are mild in comparision. Enlighten me. |

i've lived here all my life... unfortunately, the stereotypes of torontonians are mostly true imo: the majority are a$$holes with an elitist complex , and when an a$$hole is even slightly inconvenienced, they'll want you to know how they feel.
thankfully, we're not all like that |

True I heard lots of "please" and "thank you" going on in the markets and streets. Regardless of the size (and honking) its still for the most part your typical polite Canadian city.
No 370Z sighting though - sigh.... tons and tons of G35 ,G37s and Audi A5s.... a few 350s. I though I'd see a lot more fancy cars on Yonge St, etc than I did.... mostly just grandpa Beemers and Mercedes... |

Unfortunately, I have to agree with this post. Only been to the GTA three times, and everytime I am appalled at the way people act. It reminds me of LA or New York city. Maybe it's because there's just so many people compared to everywhere else in Canada. I think you hit the nail on the head with the "elitist" comment. Can't really think of a better way to describe Torontonians.
BUT, I'm from Alberta. And you know what everyone says about us... we're Bible-thump'n, God-fear'n bigots. But, road-rage isn't really an issue here. We haven't had anyone killed or beaten-up over a silly traffic foul-up. But if you mess with the religious right... look-out brother!! But, I'll tell you a true story about something I saw today as I was leaving a Wal-Mart in a small town just west of Edmonton. A lady came back into the store and had 2 items in her hands. The "greeter" asked if she could be of assistance. The lady said that she had used the self-checkout stand and had forgotten to ring in two items. She realized this fact when she got to her car. She apoligized to the employee and proceeded to go straight to pay for these 2 items. Sometimes honesty is a purely Canadian trait. And it really made my day. Quote:

i was at a toronto club to see a band called "phoenix" (they're INCREDIBLE!), and the place was absoleutely jammed. it was taking quite awhile to get a drink, but the bartender finally made her way to my side of the bar. however, just before she came, another person appeared next to me. i had been waiting for 15 min, and the bartender asked the newcomer for their order. this person, however, had the decency to say "no, he was here first," and gestured to me rather than simply placing his order and saying nothing. this may seem lmeaningless , but i can't emphasize enough how rare it is to encounter this type of respect, ESPECIALLY in toronto. i paid for the gentleman's round, and felt great the rest of the night with my re-affirmation that not everyone is this world a fu(king jerk |

I do that all the time. It was the way I was brought up. Thanks Mom!!! BTW, I was born and raised in the east end of Toronto - no, not Scarborough, the east end.

you obviously never been to Montreal....that's nothing as compared to here....ppl honk instantly as it turns green and if a car is stuck in the intersection...ppl would yell, honk, and peel out right beside you......not only curse you out....lol
downtown is chaos here, not to mention the on going construction that never seems to end and all the construction for water pipes that break every month. |

Yep, you can have Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. I like the smaller cities like Victoria, St. John's and Halifax. Quality of life is much better. Maybe that's why we don't lean on the horn - it's pointless.
