Did I just get ripped off? What should I do?!

Hi everyone. I put a deposite down on a Black M6 + NAV on April 15th 2009 @Maple Nissan in Ontario.

After months of waiting and reading every inch of this forum I've come to understand that the $400 security etch + Nitro tires isn't a must.

Maple told me that this is actually STANDARD and could not be removed from the price. I put a $3000 deposite down.

I have no faith in Maple Nissan anymore. This is my first car purchase and it's starting to become a crappy one.

Can anyone tell me what options I have other than going to Nissan and yelling at them at the top of my lungs?

I would gladly pull my order and goto another dealer if that's possible but I did sign papers.

PLEASE HELP!

-THANK YOU.

nogoodname 06-06-2009 08:09 PM

you did sign the papers, i dunno what to tell you

For a $50000 car, $400 is no big deal to me but I just don't like being lied to.

I guess car dealers really are the devil's minions.

nogoodname 06-06-2009 08:15 PM

true, so far tons of dealers have lied...it's quite common now
and it's quite common they will scratch the whole car during every service also, it's a free service they provide.

Knux 06-06-2009 08:22 PM

I remember reading something about a 3 month limit. So if the car isn't in my hands in 3 months from ordering is there something I could possibly do then?

racerxj17 06-06-2009 08:23 PM

the dealership lied and your mad at nissan? that doesnt make sense. if anything, its no fault but your own for lack of research. everything you need is on the net....with that said, i wouldnt sweat it.

ChrisSlicks 06-06-2009 08:28 PM

They make it standard at their dealership perhaps, but it's not a national thing. Dealers are always looking for "upgrades" to tack on, and one of the tricks they do is to tell you that add-on X is already installed and cannot be removed. They know that they are going to fool most people with this ploy, but they also know that they are going to lose out occasionally. You may have paid a deposit, but negotiate and see where you can get.

No, the dealership lied and I'm mad at the dealership. I understand that research is research. But human dignity is something too. I don't mind paying sticker (i didn't) for a sports car and they could add on every type of fee they wanted to - as long as it's a standard fee. That's all I really asked from the dealer and they couldn't do it. I hate to see the day I lose all my faith in ppl, Maple Nissan got me THAT much closer.

btw if anyone wants to know the name of my dealer feel free to PM me.

I know for a fact that some1 from this forum bought one from the same dealer w/o the fee (which bugs the hell out of me). It was that same person and thread I read to NOT buy into the added fee. But I do understand what you're saying as well though.

King George Nissan threw in the security etch of $250 for free otherwise I would have said no. And tell them you want the free 78% nitrogen fill instead. Nitrogen is the biggest scam out there - sheesh. Since you signed the papers you are SOL and trust me once you have the car $400 is gonna be a non-issue. Its the principal of the thing and I can understand your frustration. The good part like I said is once you've got your car its gonna be an irritation in your rear view mirror.

If you really wanna do something about it you can tell 'em if they don't change it you're gonna express you dissatisfaction with the dealership on the forums, etc and when anyone googles their dealership that thread is gonna pop up. Make it worth their while to not have you leave unhappy....

i bought from alta woodbridge, which is owned by the same person as maple and richmond hill nissan.

i can tell you that i paid $0 for etching. sorry, but looks like you got screwed...

if you want to stand on principle, demand a $400 refund. if they refuse, you can lose $600 and buy a 2010 from another dealer (woodbridge will definitely give you a better deal).

personally, i would eat the $600 just to see the salesperson who lied lose their commission. if you can afford it, eat the $600 and wait for the 2010...

just my 2 cents

When he was "selling" me the nitro he did mention lifetime free fill-ups. But like you said, it's really not about the money. He could of said there was a $1000 "papa needs some new swag" fee that was standard cost and I would of smiled and said "OK!" - ignorance truely is bliss I guess.

I won't go back and complain since a signed deal is signed deal. But they have 90 days from April to get me my car. I did swing by the other day and he told me the guy that ordered his car a MONTH before I did still hasn't recieved his. Reading the back of the agreement, after 90 days I have the option to pull out will my deposit returned and no questions (although I hope he asks why I rather pull out than arange a new date.)

I think this really hurt their dealership because they also lost my "390Z" purchase (and all my friend's future Nissan purchases - one in which is actually affecting that paticular dealer right now since I've already told some1 I know to go somewhere else.)

IF ANY DEALERS ARE READING THIS - PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR COMMERCIALS - NISSAN OWNERS ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT THEIR CARS - DO NOT BULLCRAP US AND WE WILL GIVE YOU THE SAME RESPECT.

I have the funds to swallow $600 but not the time. I'm currently driving a hand-me-down-family-car-turned-my-car 1999 Buick on it's last legs. Like I mentioned b4, this is my first new car purchase that I am completely buying with my own money and the experience is just very disheartening.

My plan so far relies on the shipping of the car. 90 days. They have 90 days. After that I'm headed to any other dealer in Ontario and picking up the first Black M6 I can get my hands on. I don't care about the packages anymore. If they have Sport, sport it is; base, nav, sport + nav- I dont care.

I really just wanted the Canadian "base" + NAV cause I hate spoilers and I was going to replace the wheels with the NISMO 19" ones anyways. And no offense to ppl that love the synco-rev but I can't remember the last time I even had to think about blimpin the engine while driving a stick. You learn it. You do it.

IDZRVIT 06-07-2009 10:20 AM

Write it off as lessons learned? You WILL enjoy this car and you will forget about the dealer experience shortly after. My dealer tried to peg me with the etching. I asked if it was some federal or provincial law requiring me to have it (I knew it wasn't)? He etched the car but didn't charge me. They also wanted to tack on tire warranty insurance. I pointed out that the extended warranty which I purchased covered that. The tire warranty was dropped from the deal. My dealer did throw in Nissan wheel locks at no cost  to my surprise. I also asked and received two Nissan ball caps. As the others pointed out, KNOW the numbers of the deal. Get a complete breakdown and what they are all for. Hindsight now, but for your next purchase.... Overall, I enjoyed dealing with my salesman. He even offered to loan his new Infinti Q35(?) demo if my Z didn't arrive in time for my wedding day!

YamahaR6 06-07-2009 11:52 AM

I also ordered my car from Maple. I also had the security etching package on the car.

The salesman and I worked out the price with the security etching package so I signed the paper.

I didn't mind the extra package, because the price on the car was a good deal for me.

BTW, if you are pissed and uphappy with Maple, you can take your deposit back. No question will be asked.
