Steering lock failure
Is this just a US thing or has anybody up here had this problem ?
Cw |
no steering wheel lock failure in my car. havent heard anyone here in B.C with that problem eather. you might wanna get your car looked at.
|
Terrace - steering lock failure is happening on any of the 2009,2010 and I believe they have had a couple 2011 starting to have it. My buddy here in toronto already had his go (awx z34) he is the only one so far(as mentioned in the DIY thread by kenchen) to have taken the failed one out open it up and get everything moving inside again and working on the car. As for everyone else they have just been going to the dealership and getting it replaced for free. Or a few are buying it on there own and replacing it themselves. GL and hope everyone doesnt get stranded..........

My electronic steering lock failed 3 weeks ago. It actually happened in an underground parking lot which turned into a 2 day ordeal trying to tow it out. I drive an 09 Z which is still luckily under warranty....the part itself goes for $1100
I should probably note that I imported my Z from the US |
You can get the part from a US dealer for ~$500. That's the route I'll take if mine fails outside of warranty.
My car was also imported from the US. |

maybe this happens to US Z only??

:iagree: it has happened to other Canadian models as well.
sinceday1 - I would think the dealerships would only replace it if it has broken/failed. Wouldn't make sense for them to be replacing parts that are still working. Also the other guys are correct you can source the steering lock from the states for around $500. No way I would pay a Canadian dealer $1100! They can go fly a kite |
Yep! A kite with a cinder block for a tail.
|
:icon18: or they can fly a metal framed one in a thunderstorm!
|
i had that problem last november and my Z is a 2009 bought in Quebec

This just happened to me tonight at work in this frigid weather. I'm absolutely furious. Pardon my frustration for not reading all the threads clearly, but someone calm me down by saying as long as we're under warranty, this is free? I'm at 21K miles on an '09. I'm seeing the prices to replace this thing and it's going to give me a heart attack. Even if it is covered, I intend on trying to get my tow fee covered, as well. It's absolute ******** that this is placed on anyone else's shoulders other than Nissans. Absolute horse ****.

its a relatively easy fix if i understand what Alcheng told me
its literally just removal of a fuse when the car is in "on" position (so the lock is stuck in the disengaged position) as my lock seems to have zero problems at the moment im going to wait until spring to take it off. Its far easier (and just prudent) to remove the piece rather than to wait for it to fail and have it dragged into a garage to replace (even if its covered under warranty and is free, its still garage time that you dont need) |
It happened on my 2009 370z Canadian model last month, fail on 38000+ km, just bring it to the dealerships.
They will take care of your car and you don't have to pay any penny. |

I thought you of all people would have seen one of the many threads a long time ago! |

Mine did :ugh2: It was covered in warranty if the car hasn't been 3 years and under 60k i believe? I also had a flat bed carry my car to the dealer ship for free |

did any 2012 Zs get it in Canada?

Pretty sure the design for 2012 was changed.
My car is stored for winter but I'm pulling that fuse the minute I drive it home when spring hits... |

However, I was FULLY reimbursed all $1,085! I nearly **** myself. I trashed Nissan on Twitter and got their attention from @NissanSupport and they pushed my "thoughts" onto Consumer Affairs. Safe to say it worked, at least a little. |

I KNOW a lot of people are really butt hurt about paying |
Crap I wish I read this thread before.
This just happened to my 2010 Nissan 370z Roadster yesterday. Pulled the car in the driveway - went back inside the house for 15 min ... came back out to start my car and it wouldnt start. Saw the intelligent light key come on my dashboard - not knowing what it was I went and got my spare key and tried to start but with no luck. Right now it is as the Nissan Dealership - had to get it towed there.... they said it will cost $1350 after taxes to fix :( Honestly should this not be a manufacturer defect if we are ALL having the exact same issue??? I mean whats to say this wont happen again and again??? |

Choices are,
There is no wrong choice, just make sure you do one. Myself, I chose the wire harness option. |

FYI:
My car (a US car) failed at 45,000 miles. Had dealer replace unit. Out $937.76. Emailed NISSAN USA. called Nissan USA. They called back and after a few more emails, they refunded me the $937.76. Take them on, they will work with you. |

Sorry, I'm old. Don't know how to do that BUT.
Used the NHTSA connection from the SLU failure thread. Found Nissan USA on the web. Used their contact e-mail. After first e-mail, an individual called me back. They said they would push it up the line. 10 days later no line. I sent a second e-mail and received a phone call back that day. They said they would get back to me. A week later they called back and said they had my info from the dealer and would push it up the line. I continually told them I was disappointed in the 370Z. That I had been a big Nissan owner for many years. This would be my last Nissan etc. 2 weeks later no response. I had called back a few times and left messages like "what's the status?", "you said you would get back to me and didn't", "I'm not going away". They sent me a survey re my problem and how it was resolved. My responses were very negative. The next day I received a call saying a check was in the mail and I'd receive it in 2-4 weeks. 5 days later I got it. I believe that Nissan will not make a 370Z recall, too expensive but refunding money to keep customers Nissan happy is something they will do. Good luck. |

bought in Calgary broke in bc . wish I would have read posts before .tow truck on route. four hours away .this is gonna hurt

This may be a dumb question, but all the threads I've read are confusing. Are 2010's affected? Also, is the voluntary recall campaign NTB13-014 being conducted in Canada? It seems some got notice of this but I've received nothing from Nissan. I read in a different thread that only some 2010's are affected. Anyone know?
Voluntary Recall |

I'm not sure which countries/regions are affected but I think CA is on the list. Contact a dealer with your VIN and they can check to see if you qualify. |
Guess I'll just head to the dealer. After doing some yoga under the dash to get a pic of the label (only way I was going to read that label with these old eyes was to get a pic and blow it up), it appears I have the 2nd gen Rev C
#48700-JF00C Production Date: 2009.10-2010.09 Seems 50/50 as to whether this one is being recalled or not. Rev A&B for sure, but not all Rev C's. I was hoping to go to the dealer armed with knowledge, but I guess I'll have to rely on them. |
