well, i had my oilchange done at the dealer today @ 2000kms, and i assumed they were going to put in nissan ester oil, but the mechanic poured in regular 5w30. I asked him about this and he said its fine for the break in period. I plan on changing the oil to motul 300v at 5000kms anyways.

My dealer told me that during the break in you should not use ester oil...

OK first off Dealers are idiots plain and simple. Its possible some of them aren't but they are going to be the exception to the rule. Doesn't the vehicle come with Ester oil from the factory?

I believe Nissan Ester oil comes with the 370z....

Agreed that some dealers aren't the brightest bulbs....

Strange... the car comes with this oil from the factory. Why would you not want it in the engine?

i thought this was odd too..... i think the mechanic thought i was going to flip out if i had to pay $18/L for an oilchange.....

CAN-ZED 07-15-2009 12:48 PM

Just curious, which dealer you plan to go to?

$105 for Nissan Ester Oil isn't bad.

CAN-ZED 07-15-2009 01:21 PM

woodchester in Mississauga, thats where i bought it...

I managed to "talk" my salesman into the first three oil changes for free. And, I'll be watching when they do it to make sure that they put in the proper oil!

I am surprised so many of you are taking your zed's to the dealership for basic maintenance..
With the price of an oil change from nissan, you may as well pick a tuner shop and go with some Motul or Amsoil.. at least they won't hurt the z..

I went to st.clair nissan one time and they scratched my Volks.. :shakes head:

I won't, but FREE is really cool. After the oil changes, it'll only be back to them for warranty work. (I work at an auto parts store with service bays attached.)

it's quite cheap.

I use Motul great oil but the one you recommend is really only for racing applications and does not stay in spec for more than 5,000km. Whilst in spec it is great but not a street oil. Go for Motul 8100 series, still 100% synthetic and all ester.
