Ok I went in the lounge and had a read! The idea about flying the tuner out from Z Tune.....Z Tune is long gone they folded quite awhile ago. I did some research to buy a up rev licence (this is according to an Edmonton member that bought his own) is $580 to his door Direct from uprev I have seen other shops sell for $600 + shipping duty ect, that gives you $150 to get your car on a dyno and tuned. If you look into flying a tuner in it is typically $1000/ tune with you supplying the tuning device uprev/ COBB whet ever device you supply yourself. This is as cheap as you will get with a dyno tune. I have yet to talk to Cam about any of this but I plan to next week as I have to order some parts from him. I will try to find out why he wants money up front I under stand the genesis deal went south leaving him with $5,000 with of software that he did 2 tunes with, so maybe uprev charges shops to a software fee? I don't know but I don't get it either.
If anyone is wondering Lloyd explained his relationship with Cam in the lounge, I will explain mine. I am long time customer of his that over the years became friends with him, I am not however here to drum up business for him he is usually booked months in advance for tuning so me pushing a couple tunes for him likely wouldn't make or break him he appreciates all of his customers he just docent need me to find them for him, I am here because I would like to see someone local with uprev so I can turn off some lights on my dash and have a tuning option for my next car. I also support him because he supports us at last years G/Z meet he put on a free BBQ at his shop for us! He never once pushed anything on us or even brought up the fact he owned a shop unlike other shop BBQs that felt like a constant sales push.

Thanks for that explanation!
I too would love to have a UpRev dealer/tuner in the local area but make no mistake about it, it's a large chunk of change to the average enthusiast. That being said, Cam is a excellent tuner and provides a good value for the monies. I'm thinking if people have questions about Cam's offer, that perhaps they should be talking to him and that would let him know that there is interest for a UpRev product locally and help him make a good business decision. Next time your in town, come on over to the Zuma garage and see what I've been up to. I'll just make sure to keep you out of my basement. Or bring your check book Tell Cam that he and I will talk after I get confirmed delivery date from GTM. I'm hoping that delivery should be sometime in May.

I did get a chance to talk with Cam today, up rev charges a large dealer fee I think it is about $6,000 or plus he has to pay them for every tune he dose so it is not a cheap endevour to get started. after the Genisis guys hung him out to dry by having him get the software and promising they were all coming in for tunes then they never followed through he now wants commitment from 6 Guys before getting the dealer software.
Any further questions drop him a line. Cam@lightspeedinnovations.com .

Here is the scoop guys. I have been burned by people with good intentions so many times. After having been in business since 1994 I bought our first dyno in 2000. Before purchasing my first dyno I had all these people promise to come and see us and spin their car up for numbers. Quite honestly this was my business inexperience and I banked on it and had less than 10% of these people show up and it put us into quite a tail spin. We made it work and the reputation of Lightspeed started to grow. A few years back I bought the only AWD dyno in Alberta at that time but this time I budgeted on not selling even one hour of dyno time but looked at what it would do for our own R&D program. However many people promised and well very few of those promises came to pass. Last year the Genesis crowd wanted to tune their cars so we stepped out and bought software and to date I have not used it. So you can see my apprehension of investing in another tuning program or anything for that matter for us. We also upon request bought the Cobb software for this crowd and well it didn't get paid for either.
The problem is expectations the scene wants a good tuner a good facility and well cheap. I am not going to lie to anyone and say we have tuned 100 Nissans cause we have not. I will say this it is much easier to tweak a factory computer to work properly than a standalone and we have set up many standalone cars 450+ cars. I also have over 15000 hours of dyno time and have worked on everything from Exotics to record setting cars. I also fly out and tune several cars a year. I believe Lightspeed is a good fit for the Nissan scene. I would like to work with the local guys. Yes it is a business and we have invested quite heavily we just want the local support. That is why I offerred a tune package for the NA cars of $750.00 which breaks down to a $300.00 license and $450.00 for your tune. Normally we charge $700-$850(depends on time) for a tune such as this plus license fees I am flat rating this as a way to say Lightspeed wants to be involved We have done this deal with several other groups who wanted software and it worked out well for them and us. I am asking for a deposit of $500.00 (do you honestly think we would process it until we had all the interested parties and we could promise delivery ). I am typically booked 2-3 months in advance starting about mid April but on a deal like this I have no problem working everybody in sooner as well as long as we get the process started sooner than later. I want 6 guys to say yes I will do it I have 2 right now. Rest assured if it didn't happen I would not process any payments I am not going to trash 16 years of reputation or a few hundred dollars. It is a large investment for us and well not worth it if only one or two people are interested to do it even at 6 it is still a large investment. My hope is that the 6 will be only too happy to tell of their positive experience. I think our positive Nissan work in the past shows our commitment to our clients. Cheers Cam |

Welcome to the forum Cam. Glad to see that you could make it.
I really do hope that you do decide to purchase the UpRev software for your business and provide suburb tuning for the 370Z's. Unfortunately UpRev seems to be our only option right now but a good option. With the torque management of the 7AT people, VVEL tuning in the near future, and the ECM engine tuning, it beats Cobb, hands down. IMHO Your in the perfect zone able to service the Calgarians and Edmontians as well as the local Red Deer guys (even though I think Gord scared them all off ) I can't see why 6 people, in 3 cities, can't step up to promise a dyno tune at your group price. The only thing I can think of is the timing of it all. From what I gathered, most are interested but not ready to commit. So my question is and I just thought of it. How long is the group buy good for? I'd step up and put a deposit down for a summer tune in July? Lloyd

We can do the FX50S as well. For some of the newer vehicles or some not listed there may be an extra procedure but we will work with the owners of these vehicles on an individual basis. UpRev has committed to us that they will work with us on Nissans that they don't list now.
Cheers Cam |
