I'm bumping this thread from the dead as I'm looking for confirmation from anyone that has personally had their DRL's disabled from the dealership. I need to get this done, sick and tired of having the HID's on all the time. I installed orb rings and want those as my DRL's. Also the heat of having the HID's on during a +30 degree day with the sun beating on the lights is flaking the black paint in the light assembly.

Please, no replies that you know a guy that did it, etc, I want to get confirmation that someone personally had theirs done, at the dealer and if it was via consult, etc. That way if the dealer says that it can't be done, I know it's bull. Thanks in advance!

The following is from the Transport Canada FAQ website:

I saw a vehicle the other day without any headlights on. I thought daytime running lights were mandatory on all vehicles.

You are right. Canada's Motor Vehicle Safety Act (MVSA) and its Motor Vehicle Safety Regulations (MVSRs) require that all new vehicles sold in (or imported into) Canada and built after December 1, 1989, be fitted with daytime running lights (DRLs) that go on when you start the vehicle.

Vehicles built after December 1, 1989, that operate without DRLs are either:

United States licensed whose drivers are visiting Canada
have a broken or disconnected DRL function; or
were imported when they were more than 15 years old, (the federal government does not have jurisdiction over these)
Provincial/territorial governments have complete authority over the road system and its use, including the licensing, operation and maintenance of vehicles.

With a few exceptions, the Government of Nova Scotia requires the use of DRLs or low-beam headlamps during the daytime hours. This law applies to all road users, including visitors.

Nova Scotia is the first Canadian province to pass such a law. Transport Canada is encouraging other provinces to follow Nova Scotia’s example.

Thanks for the info, however I am aware of the law. I will have DRL's as I will be using my orb rings during the day. I simply want the choice to not use my HIDs as the DRL. Other people have wanted to do the same and it was mentioned earlier in this thread that they were looking into the dealer disabling them.

Not sure what you are asking? You mean as far as what lights are on when the car is running?

Just to chime in on this.

OP did you DIY your lights? Blacked housing and orbs?

I'll be doing some mods to my lights as well this spring, black housing with rings. Having the the light guy to have my DRLs off and only the rings on during the day. Having him rewire it so that when I switch the lights on the rings turn off and the HID come on.

Right now lights are on all the time regardless of the switch position. Which totally threw me off when I first got the car.

Ed, make a post on the GZ page. Might have more luck there. I think one of the guys there is a nissan tech and could probably do it. That was my next step.
