Default License Plate

Does anyone's front license plate stick out away from the black plastic bumper molding? I noticed there's only two top screws hold the plate in place and there's like a quarter inch distance or gap between the plate and the black plastic bumper molding. Can anyone recommend a good license plate cover that will eliminate the gap?

???Pics to see what you are talking about

Mine looks alright, considering I am actually rocking the front plate. On my 90 300zx TT I got nothing for the front just backs. I just don't need the hassle of being pulled over any more just for that crap!

Sorry about the picture quality, it came from my crappy 1.3 megapixel camera phone. This picture was taken top down. The orange arrow indicates the bumper black plastic molding. The red arrow indicates the license plate. The blue double arrow indicates the gap between the plate and the bumper black plastic molding. And the yellow arrow indicates the j-nut that sits between the plate and the bumper black plastic molding.

Are the screws going into the paint??? I have seen a few like that. Some dealers seem to put it on wrong!

That doesn't look right....my (Toronto area) dealer installed it flush to the bumper. I've put in in a metal frame so it looks firm and in place.

I don't drive with the free advertising plastic dealer holders....remember the day when they'd place those metal-looking plastic dealer logos on the back?

I just put mine on with the snap velcro so I can take it off at the track easily. Plus, I hate drilling into the car when it's so unnecessary.

hey man try taking the screws out, take the plate off and i bet there's two spacer rings behind your screws/bolts holding the plate on.

2nd- did they(dealer) install the 40th chrome trim for the plate on the rear for you? because when I put mine on there was two rubber spacers in the kit, I think they put these on your front. But you don't need them at all I threw mine out. I think in this case you need to do the same and you will be flush!

Unfortunately, the stupid dealer did put in 1 inch bolts which scraped the bumper paint. Now I can see two white swirlies where the bolts touched the bumper.

Those "spacers" are called j-nuts. It's on page 9-13 and 9-14 of the owner's manual. I think the dealer doesn't know how to properly mount the license plate bracket. On page 9-14, it said to drill two 1 inch diameter circles in the front bumper. I may have to go back to the dealer to ask them to do this as the j-nuts I believe, according to page 9-14 show what appears to be j-nuts sitting behind the license plate bracket, presumably in those 1 inch holes?

Have you tried to remove the license plate bracket? I wouldn't be surprised if there were two 1 inch holes so that the plate would sit flush with the bracket.

On a lease? Don't care.

I would love to lobby the Ontario government to drop the front plate requirement entirely but in this nanny state THAT ain't gonna happen! Won't someone think of the children!!

Removed mine few days ago and yes, there are already 2 white swirls on my front bumper. I'm not too worried about it tho since those are covered by the plate holder all the time.

I did have the same (or even bigger) gap that you had, and so I took it off, bent it a little more so its more streamlined with the front bumper's curve, used some sticky tag on both upper corners of the plate holder so it'll help stick to the bumper, and also changed the J-clip + screws so it wouldnt screw into the bumper anymore.
