Hey all

Looking at accepting a job offer in Alberta (Red Deer specifically) and moving out by April, when do y'all typically put your Z's back on the road out there wondering if it would be safe to make the trip in the Z or if I'm better trailering it?

Also just crunching the numbers and can't find any reliable insurance estimates there if anyone would mind sharing some rough figures. I'm paying 225/month in BC with a 10 year safe driving discount (not sure if you guys have this there?)

Any help is appreciated.

Late April might be OK, but I'd avoid making the trip in early April since you'll be dealing with lots of leftover winter gravel, sand and road salt, especially through the passes ... which aren't windshield or paint "friendly". You could also encounter an isolated late winter storm since the weather is quite variable in the mountains. If you're running summer tires, if could be "iffy" because of near or below freezing temperatures in the early morning as well as the evening. Here in Kimberley, I normally keep the car in hibernation until early May because of the above. Can't comment on insurance rates since it's been a few years since I resided in Alberta. However, experience suggests rates will be lower where you're headed. Trust this helps!

It's been a bunch of years since I lived in Alberta or BC for that matter. But Alberta didn't use salt on the roads, but sand is a pain in the EVERYWHERE so if you do drive it be sure to give it a good power wash and all should be good. Be thankful you don't live here in Ontario...the saltiest place in Canada. I drive my roadster year round but usually leave it at home when the roads are wet. If it gets salted I give it a warm wash and have an anti-rust module. So far no rust at all. Good luck with the job
