Pop up shelter/Garage
 

Anyone using or have some sort of shelter rigged up or that they have bought? Looking at options for setting something up to park the Z in as I don't have a garage or car port. Looking for something fully enclosed, didn't think about storage/shelter before buying the Z lol

Live in an area that frequently gets high winds/snow as well so needs to be something stable in the budget of 1-2k

Nothing portable will properly withstand high winds and heavy snow fall. Extreme low temperature may also be unsuitable for fabric-based portable garage. If your Z is not a daily driver, try searching for a local apartment complex that have garages for rent to non-residents.

No fabric or plastic will hold up. Depending on where you live. You might be better off with a carport.

Didn't know places did this, will have to look into it...although I am a couple hours outside of the city lol

Unfortunately this is what im kinda gathering the more i read...most are only rated for winds up to 40mph and require daily clearing of snow which wouldn't be a big deal...but sounding like I'll have a construction project on my hands over the summer lol

Pricing out materials to convert my parking pad into a small garage/carport...be about 14x20 nothing huge but will house the Z and have a little storage room

I had a 10x15 pop up on my driveway for about 4 months. The tent was designed to be tied down via loops on the fabric top itself.

Over time, I started to hear faint creaking noises, but visual inspection yielded no concern.

One day, I opened to garage door to find that 3 out of 4 tie down loops had torn off from the fabric top, and half the canopy was literally sitting on the garage roof. Only reason it didn’t get blown further was the one surviving tie down. A few arms were bent.

I admit to the possibility that I had tightened the tie down too much, weakening the fabric over time (plus heat, rain, repeat...). However, I was afraid to secure the canopy via the legs (submerge legs into buckets of cement), the lifting force of a 10x15 top during a wind storm would likely bend the structure. It was just a matter of time. Temporary structure can’t be used as a permanent solution.

Last year, we added a real carport to the driveway.

The good thing is a carport can be tossed together rather quickly. A couple buddies and lots of beer make quick work of it. :tup:

If you ever travel to the Montreal area in the winter you will see its very common for houses without garages to have a temporary carport setup in the driveway. I would imagine they would hold up to the snow loads just fine because they are setting them up for use in the winter to keep the snow off the vehicles. They are all steel tubular frames with some type of white plastic or cloth pulled over the frame.

The ones here are all metal roofing.

You might be referring to the more permanent shelters. The ones in Montreal are only setup for the winter then removed for the rest of the year.

Its funny because on some streets every single driveway will have them setup.

I did some quick research and found out they are made by a Quebec company so that explains why they are seen everywhere there.

Those are more solid, mine was the pop-up kind.
