Default Tires

Hey Everyone,

Just got back from the mechanic who said my rear tires are bald bald!!

I have Bridgestone Potenza and he said those are like $960 for the rear set or he said the Indy 500 are really good and those are only $540.

Any recommendations on what to get?

Thanks

Bobby

Hey Bobby,

Check out below website, the Indy 500 only $440.00 / pair rears.

www.quattrotires.com

I purchased Pilot Super Sports and at 17k my rears are at the wear bars and I'm presently pursuing a warranty claim with Michelin, having the tires assessed as soon as its back on the road.

Depending on the outcome of my warranty claim with Michelin I'm possibly needing new tires also, please let me know of any advice you get here as I'm also considering the Indy 500.

Thanks, Dave

For those wondering about the Firehawks, I have them, and they are a fantastic tire. No complaints. Check this thread out.

Remember that Bridgestone owns Firestone now. The Firestone Firehawk is the rebranded Bridgestone R003 found in Europe, Asia and Oceania. Here is a link: https://www.bridgestonetyres.com.au/...drenalin-re003

I recommend the Copper Zeon RS3-G1 tires 225/50/18 front 245/45/18 rear. Definitely the best moderately expensive tire I have ever used. Wet and dry traction is excellect. www.coppertires.com

High performance tires trade wear for performance, so 15-20k on a set of Michelin PSS tires is about the correct replacement time. Also, one must factor the type of driving one does. Drive hard and tires such as the PSS tend to melt like ice cream on a hot summer day.

The one thing to remember when looking for new tires is that the tires are the only thing on your vehicle that touch the road. It’s better to spend a bit more on a good set of tires than to cheap out and regret it later.

I recently purchased a full set of ps4s, 255/40/19 front and 285/35/19 rear. Havent put them on yet but that ballpark price for all 4 were about 1800

Purchased from 4tires.ca and they came in like 4 business days

Hey Nixin,

Thanks for your input but....

OEM Potenza RE050A has 140AA and they lasted 24k (kms) at the wear bars. Pilot Super Sport has 300AA and they lasted 17k (kms) at the wear bars.

Referencing the OEMs and my driving habits I should have gotten at least 35k (kms) on the PSS and obviously did not.

Also, IMO the Potenza RE050A performed way better than the Pilot Super Sport....I regret buying the PSS.

how you got 24k miles on the awful oem 140 wear tires is a miracle.

mine last 8k miles and rears were toast.

i also would get 10-13k miles on RE-11 rears at 200 wear rating.

also, i had super sports once and rears went at 9k miles but sidewalls were soft so i switched to RE-11

I just had my stock tires sswitched out today for a new set of Firestone Firehawk Indy's (stock sizes). Got them from Tire Rack. The rears cost me $441.41 and the fronts cost $397.65. Delivery was very fast. Remember to factor in the cost of mounting. Discount Tires charged me $100 to mount.
I bought these tires based on all the positive reviews I read. Liking them so far!

Are PSS even still available?
I thought the new PS4S was displacing them.

Lots of great reviews on the new Michelin on other boards, btw. But they aren’t out in all sizes that the Super Sports came in (yet).

Michelin Pilot Sport A3+ is also a good tire for daily driving including wet performance. Not a track day tire, but if you are 90% or more road driving, they are a good alternative, save a bit of money over the 4S, and are available in 370Z sizes in Canada. Have them on ours, and am very happy with ride, NVH, grip (even in light ice) and wear.

PSS are still available not sure what their production life left is with the new PS4S being their new standard.

I just got some sport cup 2’s in 285/325 for the gtr. Those will be going on soon hoping I like them. Next step would be R888R if the cup 2 don’t do it for me.
