Suggestion on warranty?
Hey guys,
I ordered 2018 nismo and pick up is estimated on July. Nissan is offering me extended gold warranty for 5 years and also a 7 years. I'm planning on keeping the vehicle for good. What do you guys think, is it worth getting it? Thanks |
what is the definition of the extended gold warranty???
when I bought my 2012, I got the Maintenance+Plus Vehicle Service Plan, this covers oil changes, air filters, engine belts, all based on months/mileage.. talking the same or different |
I got the gold option & I look at it like this ....
If I never use it, it's cheap insurance. I say that because having these things worked on is relatively expensive. Here in the states we don't have to buy it at the time of sale, so take your time. And don't forget the price is negotiable ! The finance guy almost blew my whole deal because he didn't want to negotiate the ext. warranty! Saved me $600 If you ever decide to sell, it's a great selling point. Just my humble opinion, and we all know what that's worth! |
Thx old guy.
I didn't know it's negotiable, but the dealer did say I can buy the warranty at a later date. Only reason I am considering is bcuz of the CSC issue. It's just a incase thing |
If it's my money, I'm setting aside the cost of the warranty in a savings account rather than buying the warranty. Odds are, you'll spend less than the cost of the warranty in repairs over the term of the contract. CSC is hit and miss on being paid under warranty anyway, and it'll most likely happen during the term of the manufacturer's warranty anyway.

There is no one-size-fits-all answer - it depends on you and your situation. Just like all other insurance plans, it depends on how well you can financially handle losses and what you are willing to pay for the protection.
I have my house well-insured with a low deductible. Same for vehicle collision/liability. Probably more than I actually need, but I sleep better at night knowing a wreck or tornado won't ruin me financially. But I agree with Chuck33079 and try to keep enough in savings for major vehicle repairs instead of purchasing a policy. As a rule-of-thumb, any add-ons the dealer is selling you, you can get cheaper elsewhere. Eg, you can usually get better financing at a bank. (And if the bank wants loan insurance (decreasing term life), you can usually get that cheaper from your personal insurance agent.) |
In the tech area of this forum, under the "warranty" section, there is a sticky on extended warranties. I recall there is one dealer on there (Calif., maybe?) that sells the extended warranties at a discount. No recent posts on that thread.
I have purchased (factory) extended warranties in the past (Toyota) from dealers who I located on car forums, and saved a LOT of money that way. My 370z warranty expires in early November, so I'll be looking into it more as that approaches. |
My reason was in case of catastrophic failure after the factory warranty ended.
It will probably never happen ...... But you just don't know! $1300 seemed reasonable |
Do they actually repair your car if there is an issue, or Nissan will try every single way to avoid it?
Example: you have to service your vehicle with them? |
My Dad once said if you need to buy a warranty your buying the wrong brand. Warranties are a scam to me. Buy the right product and no warranty. Just my two cents...

I didn't get it, (from Ontario) I want to mod my car, so being a big company they will do anything to void your warranty. As far as csc goes I would worry they would call that a "wear and tear item" along with clutch etc. And not even cover it past the first 30,000km is what I've heard.
