Default any advice on tickets? GTA ontario canada

so after my last run in i had my Z stored, took it out today to go to cdn tire to get screws and what not to install my front cover and on my way back a cop pulls me over right away, gives me a ticket for the no plate on front, i showed him my plate stuff i bought to get installed and was on my way home to do it and he didnt care, gave me tickets for window tint and gave me a 3rd ticket for having CLEAR plate cover on the rear. 3 tickets. and summoned me to court. so now i have to look for someone and pay them to remove my god damn tint and hope they dont damage the window. he also says youve been very polite, hes your ticket. never in 10 years has anyone ever said anything about my tint or the clear covers. and he says its a summons so if you dont show up or take care of these it could be upto 6 months in jail or $5000 fine, and then says dont worry it sounds bad but take care of these 3 things and the court will throw it away, and he said i suggest you get a lawyer or traffic ticket guy, so thats when i said, but you said if i take care of all 3 the court will throw it out and just take pics of it after, so will i still need a lawyer and thats when he shook his head with attitude saying im old enough to figure it out...... wth? so i cant ask him a valid question?

fkn bs, the biggest issue is the tint for me now.

does anyone know what happens if i keep the tints on? OR if i get pulled over 2 years later and the they ask about the tints again...

locked up for clear license plate cover............................. i even took pics, cant get any clearer than clear....

i cant believe he brushed off the fact that i was omw to getting the screws n such to install it.... i didnt have these at home so i had no choice to go and buy it............ man im pissed off.. even a ticket would have been fine, but he summons me to court and upto $5000 and jail????? my uncle thats a lawyer said its bs, ppl who get charged for assault get the same fine as my clear license plate, tint, etc crap

Wow sorry to read about the bs you went through. Seems our cops prefer turning law abiding citizens into criminals while real criminals are out there committing all sorts of horrendous crimes. I will PM you with my buddies number. He was a sergeant with Peel Regional Police and is now one of those X-coppers you see or read about. Speak to him and see what he can do for you. Good luck.

Tint place can remove the dark (and install legal if you want).
I had one of my work fleet cars pulled over for dark side window tint this sure if the law changed, or if itis just being enforced more. They can no longer safety a car in Ontario with illegal tint. I think that came into effect last month. My used Z is definitely a problem waiting to happen, but the dealer ignored my concerns. I got a good enough deal that I'll live with the cost if it becomes an issue.

The clear lic plate cover blows. Never heard of that being an issue before.

Still, could be worse. At least you were not part of the NFR Blue Mountain run this weekend, A bunch of drivers charged and several impounded for stunt driving.

Tints are a definite issue for most of us, be it with Z's or other vehicles. But the license plate cover issue is just wrong. If it is illegal to place a lic. plate cover on your vehicle, why then are the covers sold legally in Ontario in the first place? The province/municipality should go after the retailers!

Yeah, but the retailers didn't put it on your car. Same with the peeling plates. MTO will replace those for free, but officers are likely to give you a warning rather than a ticket (although they can do the latter), because its not something you put on your car. I was not aware (still not sure it's true) that a clear cover is illegal. Really curious what they tell you. Ticket should quote a HTA paragraph. Care to share that?

actually technically you aren't allowed to have any covers over your plates... which sucks.

x-copper can help - make sure you tell them about having your stuff to get the front on. say you had an issue with last one and didn't want it to fall off. did you also have the plate in the car atleast on the dash?

sorry to hear that buddy, 3 tickets, wth....

he's such desperate to meet his ticket quota on the 2nd of the month??

you might want to google those charges, pretty sure you can find out the legality of the clear plate cover and tint-darkness.

regarding the front plate, just mount it and take a pic, show it to the judge, you should be fine.

on the plate cover, you might want to take it off, take a picture of it and also show it to the judge, I guess you didn't know even a clear regular plastic cover could be illigal.

No one said the retailers put the lic. plate covers anyone's car. But we have control over so many items such as liquor, tobacco, firearms, medicine/drugs. Then there should be control over the sale of other items that are deemed to be illegal. BTW, those clear lic. plates covers, or ones similar to them, are also sold at most MTO offices. Let's be honest here, this cop was simply either being a real @$$#0le or is an 'merican muscle car afficianado. Probably a Moostang type of guy, LOL.

i read up on this and it said anything is covering is illegal but if its clear 99.9999% officers wont care, for me atleast, before today obviously. And someone said the exact same thing as you in the papers and the cop said manufacturers and dealerships sell cars that go as fast as 200 km/h but that doesnt mean they cant sell cars, and its upto the drivers to go the speed limit..

i can understand getting the $112 fine for the no front plates, even tho i showed him the bag which i just bought the frames for the install and the ticket for the tint would have been fine too, but he added the clear cover????? and summoned me to COURT?????? never in all my years of getting dealing with cops has anyone ever mentioned my %5 tints nor the covers, front plates yes but only warning and 2 tickets for it in the 5 years or so that ive been driving my Z... but this cop went all out, sucks. Then he gives me attitude after calling me polite lol..

i had it on the dash years ago, cop pulled up next to me blocking all traffic and just said dont put it on the dash and it wasnt allowed.

and ya i read about the part where it said we arent allowed to have clear ones either, but the MTO at i forgot which location sells it for $6......................

but even so, this guy hated me....

good luck man!!

thanks bro,

ya i think thats where i read the info earlier. i dont want to hire anyone, i did that before and they simply just show up for you, nothing extra really, bc the last time i was in court for i forgot what but it was like 5 years ago, i saw a bunch of those paralegals etc and all they said was there client plead guilty and the ticket was reduced and no points.

im just going to install the stupid front plate and take off the covers and take a pic, im also going to attempt to take off the tint myself, i just want to save a bit of money if i can do it myself.

he wouldnt answer my question of if its ok to leave on my rear tint, i know with 4 door cars you can have your rear passenger windows tinted really dark as well as your rear window and thats legal, and im assuming and it wouldnt only make sense the same applies to our car..

does anyone know what info shows up when they put in your plates on there comps?

if you read my other story from last week that i got pulled over for the front plate thing and that cop was going nuts but didnt give me a single ticket and said go on its sunday.. it shocks me that this guy gave me 3.. and he said "ok so youve had infractions? or whatever terminology he used, "in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015. he didnt mention anything about 2017 the warning i got last week, so does that mean the other cop didnt put anything in the system, OR they dont list the warnings you receive, only the tickets given to you?

but ive only received 2 for the front plates beleive, not 4, or maybe one of those infractions included something else?

ive got 4 weeks to win the lotto, wish me luck, then i can move to our other 6 or so provinces that dont have these rediculous laws, front plate/cover.

btw, he stopped me today and my court date is in 4 weeks, and it stated it on the paper... ??

your case, or your "convictions", is not speeding, stop-sign, careless driving or stuffs that can harm the public.

it's more like if you don't have the insurance paper with you or have the expired one but you actually have insurance.

just show up at the court, explain to the judge politely, show him you've make changes on the tint and the cover.

did you buy your car used? if so, did the person/dealer who sold you the car told you the tint is legal or you were told it is legal??

About the front plate.... see if you can pull off a good reason...

if you already have ticket(s) about the front plate before, not sure if they will use those records but those screws could get loosen, so you might have to buy new screws and you thought you don't feel safe to have the plate mounted with loosen screw thus it was off for that particular trip to Cdn tire....

something like that..... maybe it works.... good luck....

i bought the Z new.
i didnt quite understand what you meant by "not sure if they will use those records"?
i was going to change the tint anyway bc its really hard seeing at night with the 5%, but i can leave the rear hatch the way it is right? atleast thats what he said for 4 door cars.. but ill show them a pic of the window "clear, without any tint"

as for the front license plate, ill put it on and take off the rear clear cover, and ya i stopped by work then went to cdn tire, and was omw to another cdn or home depot to buy screw caps and he didnt care.

what i dont understand is why he didnt just give me 3 regular tickets of $114 each and why he gave me 3 tickets with no fines on it and tells me to fix all 3 issues and show up to court in 4 weeks and theyll toss everything away. and does anyone know what happens if i put the covers back on and i get stopped next time? or if i install my SHOW n GO which another cop 3 years ago told me to buy when he stopped me and didnt issue anything, will it be a huge fine or worse?

does anyone here drive without the front plates? i love my Z and how sweet it looks without it, but now im screwed.

thanks for the suggestion man, hope it helps

Jesus which part of GTA are you in so I can stay the **** away.

As far as advice/suggestion goes, I think the cop was probably having a bad day and went to town with you. Also in the GTA having ANY sort of cover ANY part of the license plate ( not including the stickers ) is illegal. Like others have said, most cops don't bat an eye on the covers but it's something they can nail you for.

As for the license plate, you're SoL on that one, it's an auto write up for the cop. Move to Quebec if you don't want front lic plates.

I'm totally speculating here but, I think he might have seen a note for the week before in their database. The summon he gave you is basically an ultimatum for you to fix everything and prove it to the crown, sucks that he also threw in tint and cover.

imho, don't give them any reason to pull you over in the first place and you'll save yourself a lot of headache!
