Do Canadian Z's have a coating on chassis near strut bar ends?

I have these coating on my '16 z. My car is black, the white and yellow coating covered the whole strut tower.

Yea,I noticed the same goopy sticky stuff as well on my 2016.Used gunk engine cleaner along with a brush to scrub it off,no idea why it was there.

Thanks. The stuff on yours looks similar, but not identical, to the stuff that's on ours. Whatever it is, it definitely was intentionally sprayed on there and not something accidentally applied or road debris that somehow landed there and nowhere else in the compartment. More than likely it's some kind of protective coating that, let's face it, looks rather gross, but is probably beautifully protecting the chassis from corrosive elements. (Don't you just love that drip that's frozen in mid-drop on the left photo?) At least it's not spray-on truck-bed liner (which, in the case of a black vehicle, might actually not look that bad).

I have a new '16 Z and I have nothing on either side. That is very weird. Let us know what Nissan says about this substance.

epan, are you the original owner of your vehicle? If you are and you did not request that this coating be applied, there are only two possibilities. First, Nissan applied the coating at the factory. Second, the Nissan dealer either applied the coating or paid someone else to apply it.

In your vehicle's case, the coating also covers some of the conduits, which causes me to lean toward the second option. If the GTA winter roads are as salty as they are reputed to be, this coating is probably a very good thing to have on a vehicle and that's why the dealer decided to apply it as a preventative measure. So good for you.

Ya im the original owner. i didn't request that, i just picked up the car like a month ago, when i open the hood to check out the engine bay, i saw those white yellow s*** on the strut tower

Hey epan, when you have a spare second or two, check your paperwork from the dealership. I am wondering if the dealer may have applied an aftermarket rust proofing solution and rolled it into your deal/payments? Cheers.

I just checked the paper work, there no extra fees applied. and i dont see anywhere mentioned about rust proofing or coating.

Now, that is definitely weird. If what someone posted about Russian-spec vehicles on the other related thread is true -- that they have some requirement for rust-proofing -- perhaps some Russian-spec vehicles were sent to Canada ......... maybe because there was an over-abundance of them in Japan. Maybe the sanctions against Russia have something to do with this, or even, heaven forbid, the tsunami that struck Japan a few short years ago.

But this is just speculation. I'll see what Nissan has to say. It wouldn't surprise me if they know zero locally, but somewhere back up the chain some Nissan persons MUST know exactly what's going on.

I'm of the opinion it is rust proofing like guys are saying, I have it on my 16 and I did get the add on rust proofing from the dealer so I always assumed that's what it was

It's on my 2010 bought new from the showroom. No dealer added rust prevention that I know of but that doesn't mean they didn't add it.

OP, where did you buy your car? Maybe some dealers add this as a pre delivery add on just because they know how brutal our winters are on cars - never mind that many of us store our Zs.

We bought our used Z just a couple of weeks ago. I was detailing under the hood for the first time when I noticed the coating; hence the related threads.

I've been so busy working on our house that haven't yet had a convenient opportunity to go to Nissan to ask about the coating, but from the recent posts I'm almost certain that the coating is intentionally applied by either Nissan or the dealership/contractor. Either way, it's probably a good, although not pretty, thing to have on a vehicle and I'm sorry I partially removed ours.
