I've been looking at 350Zs for a while before I found out the 370Z was coming out. Nothing is selling even here where ppl have $$ no one is buying. I took a look at this car - excellent condition (lots of miles though) at a decent price here in Canada and its been for sale since July....

2003 Nissan 350z Touring Edition. MUST SELL!! West Shore: Langford,Colwood,Metchosin,Highlands, Victoria

So the dealers know nothing is moving the winter is slow anywhere for sports cars - even here in Victoria where it was around 12 C yesterday. So why do they think they can get over MSRP?

Good job Eezee

Quote:
Montreal, Quebec - Nissan has unveiled the 2009 Cube, brand-new to the North American Market, and the completely redesigned 2009 370Z, available this spring, at the Montreal International Auto Show.

The Cube was originally released to the Japanese market in 1998, followed by the second-generation Cube in 2002. For 2009, it blends fashion and function, building on a non-traditional design with an improved confident look described as a “bulldog in sunglasses.” The wraparound side/rear window creates enhanced rear visibility.

“This third-generation Cube is dramatically rethought with a clever, comfortable and fun design,” said Ian Forsyth, director of corporate and product planning at Nissan Canada. “Cube is designed for people who imagine a life less ordinary. It has a small footprint but makes a big impression, exactly what buyers are looking for today.”

The 2009 Nissan 370Z is the sixth generation of the iconic Z sports car, and is lighter, more powerful than ever before, and offers enhanced handling, quality and style. The six-speed manual transmission offers the world’s first SynchroRev Match system, which provides the thrill of perfectly-matched downshifts to drivers of all abilities. The 370Z will be priced at $39,998.

Nissan also announced that its vehicle brand sales for the Quebec region were 22.2 per cent higher in 2008 than in 2007, and its share of the Quebec market is over six per cent, and improved by more than one per cent. Nationally, Nissan brand sales were up 7.5 per cent in 2008.

Why? It's not $40,000. It's only $39,998

Nice find Eezzee - that's bang on what I figured (and hoped) pricing would be - basically on par with the Altima. Glad Nissan gave their head a shake and moved away from the $50K 350Z.... people were driving their cars off the lot and basically taking a $20K hit because the US cars were almost 20K cheaper (base line vs GT though... still no where near a justafiable 20K difference)

After our dollar took a 4 cent dive we're at 37K and with the import tax I don't think its gonna be worth it. I don't get the value of the dollar - the economy is pretty strong out here in the West and Canada has huge resources. They say our dollar is heavily influenced by the price of oil so I don't get why gas went up by 15 cents/liter and the dollar went down four cents.... Good for exports I guess....

I'd also like to know availability and what features we're getting that are different. Last I heard we were getting leather seats standard....

Well, we don't know what are the equipment differences between US and Canada, but with current exchange rate, it's not worth it.

My formula for total cost of bringing a US car over goes something like this:
[US$ price * exchange rate * 1.061 (this is 6.1% duty)] + $1000 (estimated import expenses)

Where "import expenses" = $205 (RIV fee) + $300 (estimate for enabling daytime running lights at a dealership) + $500 (travel expenses: airfare to pick up the car and gas+food expenses to drive it back).

So, with current (Jan 16, 2009) exchange rate numbers, the landed cost of a base US-spec 2009 370Z is:
[30,625 * 1.24 * 1.061] + $1000 = $40,292 + $1000 = CAD$41,292

Equivalent Canadian price would be: CAD$39,998 + destination charge of $1,375 (using current 350Z's number) = CAD$41,373

Note: US$ price includes MSRP of US$29,930 and destination charge of US$695 because you have to declare the total value in US$ at the border.

FYI, I bought my 2006 350Z in New Jersey, so I'm pulling these numbers from my experience.

Again, we'll need to wait to hear trim level differences, but if the equipment is the same, it's not worth it at all. Also, chances are we will get at least the same equipment as base US-spec 370Z making Canadian pricing right on the money.
