US-made goodness !!

Picked up my new shocks for the front of my historic race car - the old shocks were no longer working and needed to go into the junk-pile.

Check out these pieces of US-made goodness.

They weight less than one Kg ... lots of adjustment and the shock dyno trace shows a wide range of adjustment on bump and rebound.

The old car does not have room for external canisters and we are limited in period racing from using canister-based shocks anyway, but I am mightily impressed with this gear, Can't wait to get them in the car and the car back onto the track ...

These are a variation on the 7500 (they are a 7565 DA with speed dependent shaft internals from the canister version with a shim-stack customised for my cars weight and handling characteristics).

Oh we make some of the best stuff it's just expensive I bet those were $1000 each from penske. JDM has NOTHING on US race goodies.

AUD 1960 the pair, including shim-stack install and shock dyno time to check (purchased via my suspension guru from the Australian Penske distributor in Adelaide). The Koni 2812 MKII was quite a bit more expensive and Ohlins were a next step up again.

You are correct, once you move beyond "fast-road", the JDM stuff simply does not cut the mustard.

What got me was the weight (or absence of it). These things are "good".

LoL .... knock-off is wrong way around I think, plus BC don;t attend race meetings and when did you last get a rebuild kit or alternative shim stack for BC

u actually can get those but the valving in a penske shock cant be compared to a bc, there is more technology in a base penske shock than even the best bc

problem with the US market is that majority of the users are cheap...thus end up with crappy products in general.
saw some mustang-gt over the weekend running narrow sedan wheels and some shitty v12 tires as an example.

More a Craftsmam guy myself. I can swap tools 5 miles from home in case shít breaks

ditto. although, last time a ratchet broke, they offered to replace it with a new one........made in china. got the manager to give me a different ratchet, made in usa after raising some ruckus

the new s&k stuff is great and you can get it grainger priced between crafstman and snapon and made in the usa. there is a snapon online order site now too can't remember it off the top of my head. If i ever need to get another set of tools I will be taking all my blue point/craftsman stuff home and getting a full set from s&k for work. for precision measurement I go Starret and mitutoyo (mitutoyo on the stuff i need to calibration cycle starret for permanent tools my starret 0-1 is 15yrs old and is still accurate to half a tenth).
