SPL control arm setup Question.

I just bought SPL upper control arms To dial in a bit mor camber for the track.
SPL Front Upper Control Arms (370Z / G37)

A few questions:
1. has anybody put these on an otherwise stock setup? I'm wondering about where to set the "adjustment screws" to begin with a roughly stock geometry.

(I'm going to install at home then drive to the alignment shop. I'm hoping to be close to stock, or at least drivable for my trip to the align shop)

2. I'm hoping to learn to dial in two alignment setups: one close to stock, and one with 2-3 degrees camber for the track. when i go from stock alignment to more camber how will that affect my toe. (I believe I want a bit LESS toe for track days)

Rusty has these arms on stock height, but I think dialed in more camber than stock.

I have them on stock suspension. I measured the stock A arm once I got them out and adjusted the SPL to that. Then got the alignment right now I am running -2 deg up front and -1.7 in the rear. Make sure you read the instructions closly when adjusting the hiem joint adjusters. It is a double adjustment and you need to hold the hiem joint still as you run the adjusting screw in or out. If you skip this step you will get adjusters that are un even.

Take the adjusters apart and anti-sieze the threads. Pay attention to the instructions for adjusting the heim joints. I measured the stock arms from center of the ball joint to the center of each pivot. Then I adjusted the SPL arms the same. Took it to the alignment shop. Stock height Nismo. Camber set at -2, Caster set at +6. Toe is zero to slightly in. The front feels great. Even on the street. Tire wear is like the stock settings so far. This is with the Hotchkis bar in front.

With what you want to do with two different alignment setting. Your toe WILL change will each setting. Also your caster will change too, if you only move one adjuster.

I plan to dial both to get Camber. (like x turns on each to dial in then x turns to dial out). I'm thinking 2 degrees or so track, one degree street. stock toe in for both street and track. (which means x turns on toe adjustment as well... I have no idea which way)

I will definitely anti seize the adjuster screws.

Did you guys count threads or anything when "stock adjusting" your setup. Without diving in yet, I'm thinking thread counting might be a good way to record and switch back and forth between setups. I'm hoping this is a quick adjustment I can do when I'm swapping in and out my track pads and track wheels. Maybe I can even do it at the track in the am before I start lapping?

I bought the more expensive SPL arms specifically because they looked easy to accurately adjust on the fly. Was I right?

I haven't touched mine since I first got it aligned. I use one setting for both.

How does it ride on street with increased camber? Mine is mostly (twisty)highway when not on the track.

Same here SurfDog

If you have access to a alignmet rack where you can dial in both the street and track settings you want to run and then put index marks on the adjusters I suppose it would work.

Remember if you adjust the camber you will also change toe which is not adjusted from the SPL arms.

Thanks guys. I'm hoping it is as easy as setting stock. Then "counting turns on all three to dial in track setting. (Fwd spl aft spl and OEM toe turnbuckle)

You'll love it. Which sway bar you have?

SurfDog 10-02-2014 11:30 PM

OEM. I should probably upgrade

SurfDog 10-07-2014 06:28 PM

I just ordered some White lines. I think that will help with my extra grip.

SurfDog 10-15-2014 11:46 AM

Edit: white lines seem to have a problem knocking out a bushing, so I've changed my order to stillen

Question. How difficult for an inexperienced mech (me) will be the SPL a arm install??

Rusty 10-15-2014 04:40 PM

Can you turn a wrench? Have an IQ higher then your shoe size? Think obamba is a fool? Can read my thread on installing them?

If yes to the above. You shouldn't have a problem. ;)

SurfDog 10-15-2014 10:29 PM

Yes.
I think so.
F'in A YES!
If I can find it.

thanks.
