How loud are the Carbotechs?
Okay, so I'm thinking of going to the Carbotech XP8 rears and XP10 fronts, but I'm wondering how loud they are (vs. the Hawk HP+). I don't really feel like swapping pads between track days, and I can deal with some squealing, but I kind of want to avoid the "waking up the neighborhood" effect when driving at night.
What do y'all think? |
No comment from *anyone*? C'mon - I know a few of you have used them. It's not a ridiculous question, and there's no good answer in old postings...
|
I don't think it's a "ridiculous question" either but finding someone who has used both to give you a comparison may be difficult.

I have the xp10/8 combo for use on the track. Off track, they make horrible noise and dust... They just aren't practical for the street; the noise will drive you nuts and your wheels will always be dirty.

I just purchased a set of XP10/8 for my Cayman S. I'll be at Mid-Ohio next weekend to see how they work.
I have used CarboTech street pads on my 91 NSX and they did a good job. I wanted something quiet and with low dust. They delivered on both. |

I wish I had a garage; I'd swap pads out. Urban living... |
I thought I'll give some input to this thread as I've been using the factory bedded carbotech XP10/8 for about 1500km now. Until now, it hasn't squeaked much at all. Only once in a while it does, but goes away after a bit.
I'm using Motul RBF600 brake fluids and combined with the pads, it bites really well. |
I was previously looking at this combo, and found that loudness is rather subjective. There are some that said it was much too loud for the street while others said that it really wasn't that loud, but rather quite livable.
I am curious to how a good bed-in could effect results. |
Im using the XP10/8 combo, and it was definitely squeeky off the track. Granted, I havent daily driven it off the track - thats what my truck is for.
To be quite honest, changing your pad is ridiculously easy on the 370. Maybe 30-45 minutes of work? |
yeah I agree the carbotech xp series is a bit loud off track, comparable to hawk hp+'s actually.
|
I'd probably get HPS' for the street, myself. Plenty of grip for the street...
