coilovers
im so lost on what coilovers to go for.... could anyone offer me some advice?
|
The car comes from the factory with coilovers. Err, wait... :)
|
ask first why you want them?..track , street, lowering, etc..
|
ride height and damper adjust coilover like the teins or hks ect..
|
lowering street and track lol
|
Honestly the best bang for your buck and I mean the best bang where you can take the car to the track and put down fast as heck lap times would be KW V3's if you work it right with the vendor you can get them pretty low on price I mean sub $1800.00... I have seen it done before.
|
after my last set of kw's rusted up and got all corroded i need to look at somthing different i think ?

Right now the market for coilovers for the 370Z sucks because of the short length of time the car has been out. Hell, if it wasn't for the G37, we wouldn't have any since all existing 370Z kits are actually G37 kits which have nearly identical suspension setups. If you're willing to wait another year, there will be much better kits available. |
myG37 members swear by the KWs. From those who track to those who just want a drop (that can be achieved for 1/10th the price sometimes)
I hear Tein is coming up with Electronically adjustable damping, now that's something I'd wait for! |
the Stance GR's dont look bad, never tried em though. I had Tein Pro's with EDFC on my G, fukin awesome those.

First thing is to set a budget
Next is decide what use (real use) the car will be put through. "Track" is a useless term....like "Import Model". Track use with street tires is not "track", for example, and will demand a far different setup than a true track oriented car Finally, post sale support. The lure of a low price is all fine and well, but when the manufacturer has 0 post sale support (this is how lots of firms operate...no rebuilding services, etc), or when the vendor isn't around anymore, you end up with expensive paperweights |
not to sound like a jerk richie but I do not see this a common issue! I have never seen one rust and I live in GA where the humidity is constantly 150%+ and it rains 60-70% of the year. Rain was definitely not the cause of the rust! How long ago was it when you bought your coilovers? For what car did you buy them for and what kind of punishment did you put the coilovers through. Cause I thrashed the HELL out of mine and my s2k buddy is running them now and he swears by them I think he is up to 100K miles on them!!! and they perform flawlessly!

where i live i can get away with very hard street use and the roads are very bumpy in places, i just want the best for that... also want to lower it on either 18's or 19's
$2000 is a good budget for me and as for tmy v2's this was about 3 years ago on a golf r32... could hardly twist the height adjustment they didnt look too good anyway thanks :D |
bump :P
|
I live in Miami and have seen many people with KW with no rust...same up in Boston when I used to live there.... I dont know that this is a common problem...
|
can a mod move this to the suspension section please?

Please give me a call and I would be more than happy to discuss what coilover options would be best suited for your car. 770-792-0202 Quote:
The southeast is probably the most car friendly place to live as far as climate goes. If a car/part is going to have a rust/corrosion issue it is likely to be in the north where they put salt on the streets to melt the snow. |
[QUOTE=Ryan@Forged;191585]This sounds like a very unusual problem I do not think I have heard of another report of them rusting like this. Do you have a ton of snow/salt on the streets in the wintertime?
Alot of salt is used during the winter in the uk.. very annoying.. right now im thinking of... hks hypermax 3 tein flex ER Series Coilover Cusco Zero 2E Coilovers Stance GR+ arghh theres to many lol :tiphat: |
All good choices. I wouldn't rule out the KW's as I believe the rust is due to the salt and not a product of how the KW's were built. If you are tracking a decent amount you may consider the Tein Monoflex as well.
|
 so really i cant go wrong with any of them?
|
My top 3 would be the KWs, HKS, and Tein.
|
Yeah ryan I put a bunch of auto cross and DE days on my s2000 I had it for like 3 years and I was going from track to track lol you guys now how it is. that is an expensive hobby!

To the OP, you need to really define what it is you're using this for, in as great a detail as possible, or all you're going to end up with is very generalized suggestions. The more details you provide, the better. You absolutely can make the wrong choice. Grouping a Stance or BC in with an HKS and KW is like comparing a YUGO to your 370Z. They have nothing in common with one another aside from both generally being called adjustable coilovers. |
i dont want to get flamed saying im dangerous ect... but where i live its easy to do some extreme street driving with some very smooth roads and some Very bumpy
also maybe some track driving for a bit of fun throughout the year |
