Oversteer in right hand turns

I spent the weekend at Sebring and had a very scary moment where I about ate a wall because of oversteer. It was in turn 16 a right hand turn at around 60-70 mph. The car suspension is all stock with BFG G-Force comp 2 tires. I know down force would help but I'm looking for suspension or sway bar recommendations that would help with understeer? My instinct wants to change it all but this is the first car I have tracked and I don't want my lack of knowledge to make the oversteer worse.

What's your alignment look like? Start with the low hanging fruit.

I had it done not long ago, it's within factory specs.

That covers a lot of ground, unfortunately. How hot were your tires? Did it only occur on right turns?

Yes but most of the hard turns are right hand at Sebring. I only lost it once bad but it tried to come around several times.

I'd have someone take a look at rear toe just to rule that out.

Also, are you on the stock VLSD?

JWillis72 04-01-2014 03:02 PM

Yes whatever comes in a touring without the sport package.

I will have the toe checked out.

Ok, then you've got an open diff in the back. Without the sport package, you don't get a lsd. That's no bueno since you've got a lot more power than stock.

Is the snap oversteer new, or has it happened every time you've tracked it? Is there a chance it could be related to throttle control? Sorry for all the questions, but your question is kind of broad. It's like trying to diagnose a noise over the internet. :rofl2:

No? I didn't realize that.

Is the oversteer happening under braking, or mid turn, or under acceleration?

It's new but this was the first time on the track boosted. I'm sure I'm part of the problem, the extra HP was a handful!

Nope. No sport pack, no LSD. That would be the next thing to change if I was in your shoes.

Another good question. :iagree:

JWillis72 04-01-2014 03:09 PM

Under acceleration and it happened fast! I came within a foot of painting a wall yellow!
