Default lowering springs not shorter than stock?

Sorry for the noob question in advance, but I couldn't find anything in a search

Im in the process of installing eibach lowering springs and I noticed when I removed the rear spring, that the eibach spring is about 1/2" taller than OEM. Does that sound right?

I assumed lowering springs were physically shorter than stock? no?

about to tackle the fronts now...

EDIT: well never mind I discovered progressive rate springs are sometimes taller before compression

yep, cause you dont want the spring rattling around loose at full extension.

they are progressive rate springs so progressively the rate goes higher as you compress.

And most of the lowering springs are progressive, meaning they are softer at one end. They will compress more once the weight of the car is on them.
